So long story short, AEP turned off our electricity friday because the landlord (my mom) owed them money.
Then they cant turn it on under our name untill monday because its $80 extra for the weekend. We paid them and set it up monday to be turned on.
My (our) house is still below 40deg.
They didn't pull the money from my room mates account. I'm rasing hell, and im getting the power turned on today. They said 1-3 days friday.
I want my power, I've paid for it A holes

If you have a lease with your mother for her (landlord) to pay the utilities for you (tenant) than they are breaking Ohio law:
(A) Except as provided in division (E) of section 5117.11 of the Revised Code, an electric light company shall not, for any reason, unless requested by the consumer for safety reasons, or unless tampering with utility company equipment or theft of electricity or utility company equipment has occurred, cease to provide electricity to any residential consumer for the period beginning on the fifteenth day of November and ending on the fifteenth day of the following April, unless both of the following apply:
(1) The account of the consumer is in arrears thirty days or more.
(2) If the occupant of residential premises is a tenant whose landlord is responsible for payment for the service provided by the company, the company has, five days previously, notified the occupant of its intent to discontinue service to the occupant.
Ohio Code 4933.121.
If you can prove this with a lease I would show up at your nearest office and see what a supervisor could do for you. Be nice and if you don't get the results your looking for let them know you'll be back with a lawyer.

I think you're on to something here. I know in Ct, if you have any type of chronic illness that demands full-time or partial electricity, it IS illegal for the electic Co to turn off the juice.

Yeah, I'd be running down to the local rental Co for a generator and electric heaters. Monoxide posining is nasty with just using a "torpedo" to heat the place. Every year someone here winds up in a hyperbaric chamber in Ri for monoxide poisining. So be careful.
AEP=worthless dumb phucksticks.
Ask them to cut power to one of the MIL's out buildings and to combine the overhead light bill to the house bill. So what do they do.... Cut the power to the building AND the light. But it gets better, NO ONE knows WHO wrote the order to cut the power to the light or even who DID cut the power. Only got the standard response, "We don't know who could have done that. It isn't listed in our computer system."

Scroll down to page 18, where it talks about disconnection of service. It says,
"AEP Ohio will normally deliver a 10-day Notice of Impending Disconnection to landlords who are past due with payments, and to each residential tenant who receives electric service through rent payments to the landlord. This notice is in addition to the 14-day Disconnect Notice that was previously mailed to our customer - who is also their landlord. The notice advises the tenants that they may prevent the shut off by paying their landlord’s current bill amount in one payment, or initiating procedures to escrow their rent payments to the courts. If tenants choose to escrow their rent payments, AEP Ohio will continue service for 30 days."
It also says,
"During the winter season (Nov. 1 through April 15), residential customers are given an additional 10-day Disconnect Notice before service may be shut off."
Problem is, my mom is just starting to rent to us, as in we've been there for about two weeks now, and we don't have official leases yet. But that will be done today. And before us, it was a normal house. We are paying utlities ourselves, but most are in my moms name while we are moving in and settling in.
Then friday morning AEP comes and turns off our power. We even laughed at the bill I found in the mail thursday night/friday morning at 2am.
It was several hundred, but showed a payment 3 weeks prior, and the rest/another payment wasn't due till the 22nd. I figured her problem, bills will be in our names this week. Plenty of time till the 22nd. So if you were AEP you received payment recently and told your customer they had till the 22nd to pay again. Like you'd really care.
There have been notices on our door, none in the mail, just that bill. No indications of the shut off at all.

So we went to kroger and paid instantly and I called back. Apparently when my room mate set it up and paid over the phone, there should have been a confirmation number. There wasn't, the phone call ended on AEP's end before that happened. No confirmation number, no indications from the person on what was suppose to happen.
Of course since we didn't fill "their requirements" untill today, thats when we get the 1-3 turn on days. F UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
No amount of arguing with "supervisors" would convince them that my roommate had to our knowlage paid on friday and we wanted a garentee it would be turned on tomorrow morning, only likely.
Of course no with all the complaining I'm expecting wed morning. Oh well what ever F em.
I'm sure there's a law against it, or something to help me out., but my house is Fin cold as hell and no law is going to get it turned on today. Nor will it change how much we owe them.
In short I hate big companies. Absolutely nothing we can do....

Did they shut it off "at the pole" or just pull the meter? If its at the meter, they usually just pull it & rotate it 90 degrees. You can plug the meter back in (shut off your house mains 1st) to get heat going again. You may get some grief for this but you can point out how they f'd it up in the 1st place.

Just lodge a complaint against them with the public service commission/state attorney general for breaking Ohio law.
Let them prove they are right.

I have a song that constantly plays in my head during December - " It's the most wonderful time of the yeaarrrr!!" Greedy corporate jerkoffs at their worst seem to pop up everywhere. I really don't understand how anyone with even a tiny conscience could turn off someone's electricity during the winter months. Even with laws in place to prevent it from happening, they still find a way to weasel around it.
Find a lawyer who hates big corporations as much as you do and set him onto them.
Write out the full details so you have a reference while it is fresh in your mind and date it, even get it notarized. Then send copies to your state rep, County, city, local AEP office and anyone else you can think of....nb; put a line with copies to, and include all departments you send it to.

What did they say?
Your roomate paid over the phone. How? If by credit card, debit card, there IS a record you can access.
And your Mom DID pay the last bill?
Sorry to be a bit blunt, but these are the type of Qs you've got to be able to answer and say, "Hey, this was done then by this person, and here's the proof." And back it up.
Always get receipts, confirmation numbers and names. sorry you're learning that the hard way. Hope you get electricity tomorrow.
If all is in a row, all is paid, and you're freezing, call the local TV station. They'll love that type of story. Dress nice, talk in complete sentences, don't get pissed on camera, and come off as the victim of a monumental screw up by the power company during cold weather. You'll have power within hours of the story airing. Just don't try to do this if you are stretching the truth at all, or you'll be on the wrong end of a law suit.
There weren't any notices at all that was a typo. There was none just, Hi im here to shut off your power.
I don't know, and I think we might have double paid. they turned it on yesterday by some miracle but we had to go to kroger and pay instantly like that.
My mom did owe on the bill, but in this season i expected a warning. They even say there is suppose to be at least a 10 day notice.
Any way we have power, but we still have to straighten out how much we've paid AEP...
