colorado used to be a fairly conservative state, politically speaking. That hasn't been true for the last decade. Now, they're well on their way to becoming a liberal-majority state. the issue from both sides:

I love Colorado every time I visit, I just can't get over the lack of water. SWMBO wants to move there, I still vote for Norther Michigan.

It's certainly a lot less friendly to social conservatives who think gay civil unions are icky and people who smoke pot are evil.

I probably overstated things when I said, "they're well on their way to becoming a liberal-majority state"......the truth is that the liberals have stayed liberal, and that the republican party is showing more of a libertarian side than a social conservative side.

My company has an office in Littleton, which is a suburb of Denver. I've been out there several times over the past 3 years. Absolutely love the place. It's beautiful. I've never explored downtown Denver, as I'm not all that interested in the city proper, but I've gone all around the Littleton area. If you're big into the outdoors, you'd love it. Whenever I'm there, I always find some new outdoor area to explore.

There's also some really fun roads out there. IIRC, Rt. 6 (?) goes west from Golden and heads towards the mountains. It's really curvy, amazing scenery and fun to drive.

My family and I very seriously considered moving there when our office opened. We have a lot of people from my office (PA) that did and each and every one of them love it.

I have a number or friends that migrated from Houston to Denver as oil opportunities have opened up in the last decade. The paragraph above pretty much sums up what they have experienced. The only places that were affordable/nice enough to have a family were out in the Nebraska part of Colorado. The mountains end up being a long way away. The single people dealt with the drive OK, but once they had a couple of toddlers, they ended up going to the mountains about 4 times a year. Most of them have stayed, but will admit that their lives are not much different than they would have been if they had stayed in Houston. My wife and I elected not to make the move when it was an option. Not that we have any great love for Houston, but we couldn't justify a doubling of our cost of living for pretty much the same life.

I've heard that as well. That in order to enjoy Denver as an outdoors or "big open spaces" person, you've got to live in Boulder or in a western suburb of the city, or else your just living in a huge metropolis with a nice view.

Boulder gives me an aneurysm. Seriously terrible place to try to drive around.

We were just there in July, didn't see any issue getting around the place or in and out of town. What was the issue?

Maybe it was the area where i was, the portion of the city maybe 20 block surrounding some sort of clusterberkeleyy strip mall thing. (Where i happened to need to go.) Construction everywhere, congested as hell at 2pm on a weekday, ridiculously hot, nobody had any concept of awareness, and there's no gas anywhere. Where there IS gas, it's crazy low grade truck bilge swill or something.

I spent 3 hours trying to get to the place to pick up my tux, find gas that wasn't going to blow up my car, and get the berkeley out.

I couldn't get out of there fast enough.

When you live in Denver, you stay the hell away from Boulder. Seriously the strangest city I've been to yet. My friend runs a restuarant there, and it's completely amazing, but I don't like the rest of that town. Too odd for my tastes.

That road that goes west from Golden is completely awesome. It's always loaded with traffic though, and when it's not, there's always wildlife large enough to outweigh you in the road.

Eastern Colorado is almost as bad as Kansas. Almost.

Eastern Colorado IS Kansas.

Western KS still has real gasoline and a lot less attitude.

In the interest of not starting a political fight, others explained me well enough. I'm pretty damn left leaning on many points, but I've come to the conclusion the people of CA ruined it (mostly through the extreme environmentalism, "gun control" and other senseless whining to make the voters happy), and they've got CO now too.

Colorado is actually quite schizophrenic politically. The front range (aka Denver, Boulder, ski towns) tends to be more liberal. The western slope (grand junction, etc) is conservative. And of course, CO Springs is a military town.

In other words, there are political beliefs in this state that will make anyone's blood pressure rise. And you will have partners in your oppression.

More seriously. Are the state wide issue you disagree with the liberal or libertarian points? what I'm seeing in this thread and the link earlier is that state wide there is a libertarian shot and locally there are strong liberal and conservative regions.

It's that libertarian mindset slipping away and being replaced by a much more liberal/left one.

On a positive note, if you are in Boulder on a Saturday, you absolutely MUST visit the Shelby American Collection museum northeast of town (Saturdays only). Outstanding. While you're in the neighborhood, also take in the Leanin' Tree museum of Western Art.
