Looking for employment for a few months and there is NOTHING here without driving FOREVER that eats up any pay increase. So, I looked back at home, GR area, and I find that it looks like it is a employee's market for offerings. Is it just a ruse or legitimate?
I'm still here in MI and if you want to sell Porsche parts, PM me...
I'm still here! That's all I got. looks around, feels lonely
It's here and booming. I love this place.
I love Grand Rapids... though I commute to Lansing for work. lol
I left Michigan years ago when there were no jobs. When I look now I mostly find stuff looking for general labor or VP-level.
What I need is an organization that wants a college educated individual that can contribute to the success of the overall team.
According to the tourism ads, you should open a fishing gear store, or go into boat repair or cabin building.

And what is the job market like in Barbados?

There are lots of Bachelor level Engineering jobs going now in SE Mi, the market is strong and demand is driving up rates. All of the OEM's and many of the suppliers are hiring, although I can see that cooling off as the Euro zone declines and squeezes the whole industry again!
So-so, not great. Construction's taken a dump recently as some big projects are all finishing up at once. Just put a cap on a rash of theft as we got some of those lovely cash-for-gold fellows now.
In reply to Gearheadotaku:
Tried to PM but it bounced back.

I've noticed that. It almost makes me wish I had gone into Engineering.
I have an engineering degree, but it is only an AAS, plus its technology based.
They're all here in Texas. You can have 'em back.

I'm glad they all skipped over Indiana.....that said, its still difficult to find a decent paying job here. Which furthers my thinking of as long as it pays enough, I might as well work with people I get along with.
Didn't I read where people are leaving Detroit and taking their dead people with them? No seriously.
One of the guys I work with is a retired tank commander, and he won't even take his kids back to where he grew up in Detroit it is so bad.
Personally, I've only been through Detroit, but the other parts I've been to in Michigan were pretty nice.
All I know is that we have a lot of Michigan folks here in Alabama now and we have to play them in football next year.... Should be fun!
I left Kalamazoo three years ago. Moved to Atlanta. Now I live in Ohio.
Grand Rapids was the nations most unemployed city for a little while.
It's picked up quite a bit, everywhere but Detroit. Detroit is still falling. There are things going on that would blow your mind. That being said, MI, and SE MI is growing.
If anyone here with an automotive background (degree not needed) is looking for a techinical degree, let me know. The company I work for is looking for a few people.
Back to the original question, I don't know. I left Michigan 15 years ago and I was the last of my siblings to move out. The place was in a slow but noticeable state of decline my entire life. Things went up and down economically. they just never seemed to bounce back quite as high.

I left GR just a shade over 5 years ago. I was getting 25-30 hours of work at around $15.
Then I moved to Las Vegas and work a steady 40 in the same field, for $30.
Yeah, I won't be back.
