the 10 to 14 jobs thing by 38..

Let's see I'm 30 and I've had 8. Moving to my 9th soon. I've had 10 jobs if you count being a paperboy. I've had 5 since graduating college in 2003.

Heck I have had that many already and I'm only 29, but I've also been working since I was 13 (on a ranch). I've only been fired once, after puking on the boss wench when she didn't believe I was sick and would not let me go home. Quit one job after a month and figuring out what kind of scum ran that place.

34, started working at 14. Have had 6 jobs if you don't count mergers. (Different employer, but same job.)

That includes high school and college jobs. If you only count "real" jobs, I've only had 3, starting from when I was 20.

I'm 33, I've had 7 jobs but I'm in the minority in that I don't plan on changing companies anymore, and with 9 years here I'm hoping not to have to change positions though with the coming layoffs anything is possible.

I have worked one job since I was 14 (21 now). I also worked at a machine shop on the side for a few months back in high school.

Im nearly 29, and counting stupid fast food and pizza delivery jobs, Ive had 12, and again, thats not counting Mergers, If you did, it would be 15...Ive worked for 3 different companies in 4 years in the same building.

BTW, that video makes me feel more insignificant than the first day of high school

37yo and 9 places of employment. 12 if you count the different jobs at the same place.

I've seen that video before, pretty interesting... I think we're right at the end of an era where people pick a "career" and work at the same company for 35 years. The ones who are retiring now from those types of jobs are getting replaced with people like myself who don't see their future life in those terms at all. I'm 27 now and most of my friends are in their mid-20s to early 30s. I don't think I could pick one who wants a permanent career.

I've got a pretty good gig at the moment but naturally I'm on contract until the end of the project. Then it's on to something else. I like that. I have no plans at all to keep doing the same thing even for the next ten years, let the rest of my working life. I'd sooner gnaw my own arms off than try to "rise up the corporate ladder" - I just don't play those games. Even my boss, who's been with the company for eleven years, is still on limited-term contracts and he changes projects every so often.

If you told me the world my kids grow up in is going to be at right angles to the world my parents grew up in, well, I wouldn't argue too much.

That was my first response as well.

It's terrifying and invigorating at the same time.

Though, I really do question the sustainability of growth like that, or the point.

Oh well, back to the shop...

Hhmm...I find that video rather interesting and informative. Not too sure how to react to that honestly, but I dont feel threatened or insignificant by it. I would imagine that it took a while to gather and analyze that data.

As for the jobs...22 yrs old, 7 jobs...currently hold two of those so i dont know...

As a side note I would be curious to see how many times on average a college student swithces majors because I'm up to 5 on that list...

On a different note, I laughed at the Bermuda comment (#1 in broadband internet penetration). The island is 21 square miles and you can moped from one end to another in under 20 minutes.

I bet 3 wireless access points cover the entire thing!!

I was told by a retired engineer that companys look for multiple types of experiences, as in switching sectors every 5 years or so, or else you be come one dimensional and fall back on whats all ready been done. What he didnt tell me was not to tell potential employers that you'll be leaving 5 years. On the other hand it will take me almost 5 years to get my professional engineer's license and I feel that I owe it to my company to stay on longer than it takes to just get my stamp.

Did you know... 95% of statistics are made up on the spot? Yup, this one is made up too, but I'm not sure I'd take that video entirely at face value. Regardless of the exact statistics, this video does bring up quite a few interesting points.
