How does everyone know which strain they had?  Is there a specific test for each strain?  How do the tests distinguish between different coronaviruses and different strains of any particular virus?

The genomes are sequenced by scientists pretty regularly, and if youre handy with a google search it is pretty easy to research lineages and see what the dominant strain was at the time someone had covid.

Can you show an actual full sequence in medical literature somewhere?  Or is it being based on "at the time," only? How does that "at the time" translate into someone having a specific strain?  As you can clearly see, multiple strains are present at different times according to that graph.  And which test, specifically, can determine which strain a person has?

You're making this way too difficult, people are mostly infected during one of the big waves involving one dominant variant of concern which are fairly spread out.  I don't need to comb through medical journals to know that when I got sick in early September 2022 it was Omicron.

Genomic sequencing of the DNA amplified by a PCR test is used to determine a variant, it takes about 10 days so we're not doing this so your doctor can say "Congratulations, that covid you had a week ago was XBB 1.16.11". You're not going to do anything with that sort of information.

Quite the contrary, all during the pandemic, I could detect the strong stench of government overreach.

As a libertarian, I don't think masks should have been mandated.

As a rational human being, I do think that anyone who refused to wear one is an idiot.

Have you read the OSHA standard for an N95 mask?  Do you know what the 95 means?  Do you know what the mask is rated to prevent transmission of?  This is all publicly available info published in the appropriate CFR and Federal Register.

And to be specific OSHA calls it a respirator which requires sizing and training to achieve it's designed rating.

Sorry, I missed this earlier.

I have personally read some but not all of the OSHA respirator standards, but given that my wife is a scientist who worked in toxicity testing labs for the better part of 40 years, I believe I have a better-than-average understanding of respirator types and protocols.  Yes, she has had the fittings and the training and the testing.  Yes, she wore respirators daily when she was in the lab.  I have a couple nifty respirators she has brought me and taught me how to use properly.  Yes, I know what the 95 means.

I harbored no illusions that a disposable mask or even an N95 was COVID-proof.

But I know for damn sure EVEN A DISPOSABLE MASK WAS BETTER THAN NOTHING, AND JUST WASN'T THAT HARD TO WEAR FOR 99.9% OF THE POPULATION unless they wanted to get all butthurt about being told to do something.

I know you're proud of your special deep-cut understanding of how the world works, but you have a huge blind spot when it comes to interacting with other people as if they are sentient adults.  Since you know everything about everything, why bother dealing with us mere mortals at all?

Unless you're just one of those garden-variety shiny happy people who think that "just saying it like it is" excuses you for being a dick all the time.

Asking for factual data is being to difficult because you can't provide it?  Do you know what the inventor of the PCR test said about using it for COVID?  Also a PCR test does not do viral sequencing.  It takes low levels of viral material and amplifies it to detectable levels.  It cannot distinguish between any coronavirus including the flu or a cold.

FYI, PCR defined "molecular photocopying."  It does not do sequencing.

So are you admitting your determination you had any particular strain was based on the news of the day and not any actual medical test?  It is based purely on "at that time?"

So what does the 95 mean?  It's ironic that you say anything is 99.9% effective when an N95 is literally 95% more effective than nothing by OSHA standard.

Then because you know you are wrong you resort to personal insults like a grade school bully.

Does your wife want to answer for you?  And what exactly is an N95, 95% effective against?  It is defined too.

You called anyone that wouldn't wear a cloth face covering irrational.  If you can't explain it rationally, that is ironic and kind of funny in a very sad way.

You may be surprised at how difficult it is to find good data to back that statement up. As a side note my wife is also a scientist

That's the funny thing about the scientific method, you have to provide the data and it has to stand up under scrutiny.  I don't really care who is a scientist, provide the data and follow the process.  Documentation, please.

Now go back and read what I actually wrote.  To make that easy I've narrowed it down to the relevant part, and highlighted just that.

I stand by my last statement in the previous post.

Would it satisfy your Beautiful Mind if he said "I most likely had Omicron" instead?

Or are you just never satisfied?

As I pointed out in the Russian thread, he claims to have all the info, but never shares it. I suspect it's because he doesn't actually have it. He's just an impotent troll.

I have a bit of editing to do this morning. Just wondering if I should work on that or sit here and monitor this thread?
