Looks really fun. There is just something about people flogging old cars that is just really fun/dangerous.

If you mean the one at 1:06 in the video, I think it is a 1956.
I'm no expert in tri-five chevies, though.
I heard a story on CarTalk about thieves stealing one and running out of gas because they could not figure out how to fill it up....they didn't know that the gas cap is behind the left tail light.

Close. New Zealand....the same folks who invented jet boat autocross (They call it jet boat sprints.)

I approve of sports where boats need roll cages.
One of my students is bringing his 216 Chevy-powered jalopy to the Latimore PA event in mid-May. Pretty cool dirt tracking event.
There's a guy down the street from me with a '55? stock car and a '30's (probably a Chevy) jalopy. Neither will see a new owner until the current one is in the ground.
I half expected the cars to travel clockwise, either because of the right-hand drive or because they're in the southern hemisphere. I guess counter-clockwise is the universal direction of oval track travel.
Here's a short vid of the Latimore PA Jalopy Showdown that I referenced above.
Lots of interesting cars in attendance including some that skip the "mud run". Coming up in May.
Sort of reminds me of Classic Trails in the UK....take a classic and drive it up a muddy, twisty hill.
Thanks for posting that, aeronca65t. I didn't know we had such an event stateside. Attending that just went on my bucket list
