One thing I love about live music is the opportunity to hear new acts. Sure, you're there for the headliner, but sometimes the openers are pretty solid, too.
I recently saw these two bands as openers. Neither one fits my usual M.O., but I currently have them both in heavy rotation:

So, anyone else have any other bands to share?
Metalheads keep an eye for my boys in Carnivora. They have been laying waste to Massachusetts & just won a spot on our local Metal & Hardcore fest next month.

I've been listening to the Piano Guys...
Saw these guys at the custom car show. Good enough to rate an album purchase from me. (which is rare) Not my favorite song, but it has a video.

Oh man, yes. Last week, we saw J. Roddy Walston and the Business. They put on a badass show, as did their openers, Discount Guns. I'd highly recommend both.
I went to see Jason Boland and the Stragglers (country band) down in St Louis in January and I liked the opening act as well. Thieving Birds, hadn't heard of them before.
Yeah... GWAR. Totally never heard of them until someone died.
Amy MacDonald is pretty cool. Discovered her on Top Gear. The fact that she's adorable and has a thick brogue doesn't hurt either.
I've been completely enamored with The Mountain Goats since they had a song featured on The Walking Dead a few weeks back. I'd heard of them before, but didn't get around to listening to them until they were on the TeeVee.

WHOA. I'm not 100% on the singer, but jesus christ do they have some good music.
Shannon and the Clams is a new-to-me group from Oakland. Imagine Amy Winehouse but with a big girl that plays bass and it's got a punk feel.
I love their cover of Runaway by Del Shannon.
I heard a couple a few days ago on Liquid Metal that I liked so much that I bought their albums.
Kyng
Windhand
This song came across on Pandora yesterday, I like it a lot.

Look for some live videos of her too, she can play the E36 M3 out of a violin, and does great covers of video game music too.
In reply to mndsm:
Their live show is intense. He is a very energetic person on stage.

My wife has a Pandora station based on her music. Fantastic stuff.
