Since New years I have been sick. Started with a nasty sinus infection that just will not go away. It gets a little better and then suddenly will get really bad. This has made my teeth, ears, and head hurt, driven up my blood pressure(it is normally low), given me a ringing in my years, and made me just generally feel like E36 M3.

The house I am renting has a small "bedroom" that was added badly. How the place ever got a CO I will never know. The room is unheated, uninsulated, and The roof tends to leak because it is slowly pulling away from the house proper. I have patched the seam three times in the past 6 years.

Getting ready to move out, I started pulling all the stuff I had stored in there.. and found an overabundance of Black Mold.. you know, the really really really bad for you mold. No doubt I have a fungal infection in my sinuses that is slowly trying to kill me.

I will be so glad to be completely out of here by the end of the week. I am mostly out now.. just got a few things I need to move and clean up.. and then I can start to get better

So worried about this since I started renting instead of buying. I've been sick since moving into the rental house I have, but my wife has as well. We're chalking it up to moving across the country and numerous new bugs..

Sorry to hear about your problems. Hopefully they get better soon.

I find it hard to believe that the landlord cannot be held liable for this?

Just out of curiosity, why are you patching the roof on a rental?

The last time my rental house roof leaked, I patched it and had a contractor replace it inside of a month. All the tenants had to do was make a phone call to tell me it was leaking.

Hope you are moving to a better place.

Get well soon.

my landlord is 85 years old.. he has allowed me to do repairs and take it off of the rent. This has worked out well in the past.. but the place is falling apart too much anymore. It was built cheaply and before I moved in, not taken care of well.

I am moving to a much better place. My father just moved back from Florida and bought a home nearby. It was his idea that I move in with him.

I was just reading the symptoms of black mold.. I didn't realize how many I was suffering from. I should be out of here on a full time basis in a couple of days.. and the rest of my stuff by the end of the week. Then I have to go see my Doctor about her recommendations for getting over this.

buy yourself a nasal aspirator, and flush 2x a day, for 5 minutes per nostril, with saline. you'll feel like a million bucks inside of a week. trust me, it really works. i have stopped carrying an handkerchief since i started doing this, my nose is just never dirty, i never sneeze, you get the idea...

Do the next tenant a favor and burn the place down.

Clean all of your stuff before bringing it into the new place. As for holding the landlord liable...prove it. Yeah, you know how that would play out in a courtroom.

If you just found it there's a chance he didn't know about it too. +1 to cleaning your stuff thoroughly before moving it, especially clothing. Hope you are feeling better soon!

My landlord has not stepped foot in the place since I rented it 7 years ago. It is funny, he just sent me a new lease in the mail today too

Yea that situation can be both and good. Good because its kinda "your place" and you don't need to ask permission. More than likely that type of landlord won't be picky about the condition when you move out, and you can modifications without incurring his wrath.

I've got a similar landlord and I prefer this type of situation over the property management company who nickles and dimes you.

That being said, rental age and condition are pretty important factors in what makes a rental a good deal. Our current place is almost 70 years old now, and it shows. Our last place was 25 years old.

Oddly enough, that newer place had mold, due to it being built into an embankment.
