When something breaks on your car and you are excited for the excuse to upgrade. Then it turns out that it is an easy fix or not really broken and you don't get a chance.
I was riding my motorcycle the other day and the tachometer stopped working (it does it every once in awhile) I was thinking about all the options I had to replace it when it started working again.
Sounds like you need to throw a turbo on the Guzzi... My guess is that the tach just gets bored and takes a nap every once in awhile...
Yup. I had a core fall out of my spark plug and rattle around like a thrown rod in my Toyota Pickup (22r) I was all sorts of excited about LC Engineering engines etc...
I was sitting in the parking lot, waiting for the wife, and I don't know what possessed me to pull the plugs but.... long story short: a screwdriver, and some bubble gum from the store ruined those dreams for me.
I'm only disappointed when I can't afford the upgrade path when I break something. I usually figure it out and manage it, anyway. The only time I got really disappointed is when I killed my Nissan pickup, I really expected to be able to cut the front clip off and repair it along with a body drop, but I couldn't scratch together the parts to even make the OEM repair, much less afford air bags :p
My girl swears I break things just so I can fix them and make them better.

You may be onto something there...

I will admit when something in the drive line of the E30 started making noise on Sat, I started having day-dreams of an S52 swap... But right now I have no time to fix anything, so no, I'd be much happier right now if my cars would just simply run and not make unpleasant noises...

The tach stopped working? I think megasquirt will fix that. And that turbo someone mentioned earlier...
I have the opposite problem because getting parts and installing them myself is difficult. Something breaks and you're hoping it's just an easy fix or not really broken but it turns out you have to replace something, and you have to install whatever E36 M3ty bargain-bin part you can find unless you want to pay a E36 M3-ton and wait 3 months to import the performance part you want
I think I've gone through 2 sets of engine mounts now and haven't had a chance to put solid urethane mounts in, and super-tight airline baggage weight limits have killed my options of smuggling parts back in a suitcase.
I'm just disappointed that my car is too rusty to justify a 2.4 swap.
no i just do the upgrade anyway. i just keep it to myself and pretend like part x really needed replaced, then toss it on the shelf just in case the replacement breaks.
