There's a lot of new, interesting EV stuff coming down the line. Like a RWD EV wagon from VW. Or a Mustang that was shown at SEMA, which is totally not like the Mustang that Ford wants to sell you. And the fact that RWD seems to be the default 2WD choice now that we're not as worried about running a transmission down the center of the car.
And, as usual, GRM is where you find the intelligent conversation that's relatively free of knee-jerk attitudes learned from car blogs that are just pumping out whatever gets clicks. We have multiple fairly active conversations going on about everything from used EVs to new EVs to future EVs to DIY EVs.
But not everyone is interested in cars that don't make noise. 15 year old cars make up the bulk of the grassrooting motorsporting fleet, and EVs aren't going to be there for a while. That's cool.
Should we section off the electronheads to make it easier for everyone to get the appropriate fix they want?
The proposed new section would have to be surrounded by an ELECTRIC FENCE!
I'd frequent such a subsection more often than I look at sprockets...

In reply to Keith Tanner :
I kind of like having the ev topics mixed in with the rest of it, just like having discussions about diesels gets mixed in. What I've noticed in a lot of the EV threads in the past is a general unawareness for what's out there from a lot of people, even GRMers that know and love cars. I'd think that an EV specific subsection might just become a place for those who already know or like EVs, and the general person might never learn anything new about them. The EV threads serve to educate a lot of people and introduce them to new concepts or ways of thinking, and segregating the threads away in a place where those people wouldn't stumble upon them might limit the general understanding of the populace here. My fear would be that you'd have a lot of EV nerds talking about EV stuff, but no new blood really coming to the table.
won't matter to me because i just click on "latest topics" anyway
I am very much in favor of an EV subsection!
I wouldn't be opposed to it, it'd likely be relatively small though.
I would be in favor of it- but I favor a "Electronics and EV" section MORE than a straight EV, as everyone could always use electronics help with their projects and EV is simply an outgrowth of that. After all, how many guys have you known that refuse to even TOUCH an injector, let alone consider a megasquirt?
It would also help to condense some of the great threads and resources we have dredged up, too.

No. Electric cars are just cars. If it is motorsports related, it goes in the GRM subsection. If it is not, Off-topic. I don't see why EV wouldn't be included in the current ones. Otherwise do we need one for diesel? hybrids? Propane? Propane accessories?
No. None of the subsections make sense. The volume of traffic here isn't that high. If anything, there is a tagging functionality that offers the ability to sort, isolate and organize threads without the need for subsections and also allows for threads to be tagged with more than one.

Basically this ^ + "your posts" is all you need.

Agreed. That’s the link I have bookmarked actually.
I imagine it'll be more likely to happen if someone like EVWest or SCCA Spec Racer Leaf, or SCCA Formula eV come in and sponsor it
Hey, remember the off-road section?

Same. I don't think I've ever gone on Sprockets. But I also don't think there is a pressing need for an EV section. I think mtn explained it best.

I'd love an electronics subsection, even if I felt unable to contribute I'm sure I could learn a lot.
It's not just about ECM's. Small alternators, fuel pumps, various injectors. Etc etc etc.
Who's got what, where you can find similar parts in the junkyards, which parts are better, limits and warnings.
Short cuts and source codes. Heck even, ugh,••• Music sources.

I agree.
But I don't even bother with latest posts. I go to GRM and Off Topic, she if anything interests me on the first page of both, if nothing I close out.
It will, but not at the present. It's a good happening though.
Hmm. I hear you. Let's see what the group continues to say.

I’m scared that if I went all the way to the proposed EV subforum, I may not have enough juice to get back without recharging.
Although, I’d be convinced to go there if there was a tax credit involved.
Before we do an EV sub-section. Can I get a way to view my post and view threads that I've started? Not a list of threads I've posted in, but my actual post.
PRETTY PLEASE WITH JG ON TOP?

Never let it be said that I don't acknowledge brilliance. That sir, is brilliant!

No, it would be pretty dead. There are too many subsections already. Since we are remembering dead sections, wasn't there a Canada section at one point?
