Yes, I'm being a bit cantankerous, but it's also a serious question.
Does anyone like pop-ups? I cuss and grumble every time that thing rears its head. And yes, it's just a mouse click to get rid of it for another couple weeks but sheesh...why must I? I feel it's beneath GRM to utilize such tactics unless it actually has a high percentage of positive results.
Yeah, install pop up blocker blah blah blah...
Becoming a plus member also solves this.

They're running a business. They make money through subscriptions.
You're choosing to come to this page, it's not like they're planting clickbait on social media and then bombarding you with requests to subscribe and then hiding stuff behind paywalls. It's an add for a product you probably want.
A pop up once in a while is a small price to pay for the value of this FREE forum.
It's a good question and I'm sure the answer is yes otherwise no one would do it.
Sorta like the card inserts in magazines. Simultaneously hated readers and one of the only ways many readers subscribe.

You said yours only pops up once a month or every few weeks. With the settings I have on my desk top and laptop computers, it pops up EVER time I open the website, and often ever thread I click. That's a bit much.
Doesn't pop up that often on the mobile phone.

Every time I return a book to the library I leave a couple of those blow-ins in it.
In general it seems that 97% of the population will ignore pop-up ads. The people who make and sell them call the remaining 3% a big win.

In reply to Robbie (Forum Supporter) :
I've always used inserts as book marks.

I only ever get the pop ups that first day a month when I get signed out and sign back in, and any time I scroll allll the way to the bottom of the page.

I get them seemingly at random. I'm on a computer; don't log in from my phone.
3%? Hardly seems worth it. 2.5% of those people would probably subscribe anyway.
I didn't know you could read the forum on a computer.
I kid.. but approximately 103% of my forum activity is on my iPhone.
Thanks for the feedback.
To answer the first question, yes. It's by far the most effective tool we've ever found to generate subscriptions. Those subscriptions are what funds this site, but more importantly they allow us to keep sharing our content with new visitors who may otherwise be one-time viewers. This party wouldn't be much fun if there were only five people in attendance.
It shouldn't appear more often than one page load every other week, though. You're probably blocking our cookies if you're seeing it more often.
