Ok so just to establish a baseline we're experienced dog owners and we foster through a local rescue group.
We have two other dogs and we adopted a rescue Husky mix a few weeks ago. She's over a year old but less than two. She came to us as a foster. She was spayed a week ago and is displaying some odd behavior. She still has an appetite and is playful but she seems a bit off/depressed. She's become very attached to three stuffed animal dog toys. Tonight I found her on #2 Daughter's bed with the stuffed animals arranged in a row and she was positioned as if she were nursing them. I asked SWMBO to check it out and she confirmed I wasn't imagining things.
Anyone else seen this sort of behavior? Not very concerned just curious.
Our male husky, also a rescue dog has a menagerie of 5 stuffed animals that are clearly comfort items. He is very protective of them and arranges them in little groups.
We've had this happen with our dog too. She gathered a bunch of toys and tucked them into the blanket inside her crate for the better part of a month.
It was kind of funny to watch our younger dog keep trying to take his favorite toy out of her "nest". ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/laugh-18.png)
I'm curious if she had a litter at some point that was welped early or was a mill dog at some point.
We have sight hounds (2 Salukis and a Greyhound). They are not normal dogs. I cannot help you. They are fast however, so if the husky starts running fast just get out if the way.

Doesn't look like she's had a litter. We have little info of her former life except that she was rescued from a high kill pound in northern Québec.
Our cinnamon&white female only wanted to destroy the animal beanie baby collection.....oh and stray cats......
Let me talk this over with my dog and I'll get back to you.
My dearly departed greyhound used to go up to my son's room and strategically reacquire his 3' tall Scooby Doo, take it downstairs and carefully sit it up next to his bed
. He also had a couple other stuffed animals he'd carry around and rearrange next to/on his bed.
Sounds like it's not so uncommon for them to have comfort toys, based on the responses here.
My labs have all been female and all been fixed. Every single one has had a "false heat" after being fixed. Sounds a bit like you're describing, they'd tuck in somewhere out of the way, and get kind of withdrawn, after a week or so they'd come out of it. Like they were having a litter even though they never had the chance.
My wild ass guess is getting spayed messes with their hormones in the beginning.
Rescue dogs know when they are rescued, give her the damn stuffies; she'll come around.
Thanks for doing this.
