Domestic quality perceived better than imports

I didn't get this from a commercial. It was from a news site saying they'd paid x amount and still had a long ways to go, which is basically what I typed in my last post. From what I read they plan to pay the rest back. We'll see.

Definitely premature if that's the case. I still hope my coffee will take hold soon......it's too early and it's raining.

Yeah, I figured this thread would flush out the domestic-haters.

I predict another page or two of "Yeah, well, my Chevy Impalibu is holding up great with 2 million miles!" followed by "Well, my Impalibu's engine fell out as I was leaving the dealership!" Anecdotal stories can be useful, but I still prefer surveys of larger groups of car owners (like JD Power) to be able to really tell how a company is doing.

As far as the media piling on Toyota, they most certainly have. But only after 10+ years of singing their praises at every opportunity. Call it a correction.

The products are what they are - Different priorities need or care about different things. For pullin' stuff and makin' smoke I buy domestic now. For sitting in traffic - germans or japanese have nice insides. For carvin' apexes... germans all the way.

Quality is getting better across the board, for the most part, but there is still no vehicle that would entice me enough to buy it new.

I have had a GM car that I sold with over 280k miles on it, I have also sold a Japanese car with about the same amount of miles on it. Both were still running very well with all of their original large mechanical bits.

I just hope that other eople keep buying new stuff so I can get it later in life.

What's going on with Toyota right now doesn't hurt my feelings too much. They are known as much for boring as quality imo. Bring back the Toyota of the 80s and early/mid 90s and I'll be on board.

We DD domestic, although we did commute in my 944 Turbo for awhile. German and Domestic for "carving apexes". Domestic for all out hooning because they are just the best at burnouts period.
I did just buy my old MR2 back. Not sure what I'll use it for, it needs quite a bit of work, but maybe a commuter every now and then once I fix it up.

BTW do you have the Duramax/Allison combo? What do you think of that transmission? I'm taking a hard look at those once I sell my Dodge with the Cummins.
