Cliff notes: Mysterious large box of dope is shipped to mild-mannered local mayor's home, SWAT blows in and treats them like drug dealers, including shooting both family dogs. Neighbors report the dogs (labradors) were well known in the neighborhood as friendly and calm.

I'm not saying it was, or wasn't his dope, or if that even matters...

What do you think?

The whole thing is a bit weird. I suppose it's possible the mayor's wife was dumb enough to have a 30lb brick of dope delivered to the house, but it sounds pretty strange. And one account I read said one of the dogs was running away from the police when it was shot. And I can't fathom why the police would wait until somebody picked up the package from the front stoop - what difference does that make? It was addressed to the wife, the MIL told the delivery guy (from a 2nd story window) to leave it on the front step, and the husband brought it in when he got home... how would he know it was dope or something else - my wife orders stuff all the time without telling me?

Sounds like a set-up to me. Who would be stupid enough to have drugs shipped from Arizona by a commercial carrier all the way to Virginia and not think it would be confiscated. In this post 911 world we live in everything gets scanned somewhere along the way.

That's one SWAT team that has a lot of explaining to do.

Reminds me of the Chappelle skit where the white people go through the black justice system.

In the skit they even shot the dog for no good reason.

The Prince George's county police are legendary for their brutality and corruption. There probably isn't a worse police force in the nation.

This Mayor has been trying to get them under control. This is nothing more than retaliation by them.

Yeah, depending on quality, that's at least... Wait, I know nothing about this sort of information.

Mayor Cheye Calvo was not arrested in the raid, which was carried out about 7 p.m. by the Sheriff's Office SWAT team and county police narcotics officers. ... Calvo described a chaotic scene, in which he -- wearing only underwear and socks -- and his mother-in-law were handcuffed and interrogated for hours.

Fishy, fishy... a halfway decent lawyer should be able to have a field day with that.

I love cops, but if I am mayor and my dogs get shot, my town gets a new crossing guard program. and the uniforms look like Little Bo Peep.

Somebody shoots my dog, they better be prepared for a dirt nap themselves. I like my dog more than I like most people.

Yes, they have at least one major incident every six months. I'm suprised that they didn't shoot the mayor and the MIL, that seems to be the usual mode of operation down there.

"I understand they have a job to do, but it didn't have to go like that," Calvo said. He said the police could have knocked on his door and asked him about the package. "I've never done drugs in my life."

I'm sure they've never heard that one before.

Awesome choice of words, Mr. Clay!

Money for drugs but not food, ehh? Great people those are!
