Drawings of Weapons Led To New Jersey Student's Arrest

A teacher noticed drawings of what appeared to be weapons in his notebook. School officials made the decision to contact authorities. Police removed the 16-year-old boy from Cedar Creek High School in Galloway Township Tuesday afternoon after school officials became concerned about his behavior. Police then searched the boy’s home on the 300 block of East Spencer Lane and found several electronic parts and several types of chemicals that when mixed together, could cause an explosion, police say.

I should have my wife locked up! She drew a picture of a stick figure being hanged slowly in front of our children when they couldn't correctly guess the letters to a word... and there are chemicals in the laundry room that when mixed together can cause harm (as well as remove stains from clothing and emit a nice scent of fresh pine). The goddamn woman is a menace.

Obsessed with boobs but cant draw them or talk about them in school. Obsessed with things that explode or shoot stuff but cant draw them or talk about them in school. I guess its no mystery why so many teenage boys hardly talk to adults.

Before we get all upset, maybe we should try to find out all of the details to this story.

WTF. Why would you put the address of a minor in your news paper article? Now you might have a real nutjob out there who feels that have to stop this kid before he really does do something. Idiots.

Zero tolerance = zero intelligence.

A DRAWING GOT HIM KICKED OUT OF SCHOOL?

We still had these when I was in school and when my kids were in summer camps they taught them to shoot. .22s, but still with real guns.

Last time I checked none of us had shot anyone or been thrown in jail.

omg!omg!omg! that is only a couple miles from here! Should I hide? Should I hunt him down and get him before he gets me? omg!

Seriously.. I remember when one of the local High schools suspended several students for wearing trenchcoats after columbine.. never mind they fact they had been wearing them for the previous 3 years.

I can only hope that cooler heads prevail in this knee jerk society

In reply to Giant Purple Snorklewacker:

I read the link to the story. I find it completely full of holes big enough to drive a truck through.

It doesn't say he was arrested because of his drawings. It says he was arrested when he demonstrated behavior that caused concern. What kind of behavior? Was it artistic talent, or violent threats? What kind of drawings of weapons? Was it one line drawing of a Colt 45, or a whole volume of violent images of mutilations, gore, and torture?

What were the charges? Sure, arresting him for drawing a picture is way outside the bounds of the Constitution, but since the article doesn't say that, why are you assuming it? Maybe he threatened an officer when questioned. Again, no details.

Doesn't say whether the searches were done with or without a warrant.

Let's see... electronic parts and chemicals. Could be stereo repair parts in his bedroom, and Drano under the kitchen sink, or it could be a fully functional detonator and a 55 gal drum of Mustard gas.

All this journalistic excellence brought to us by the same idiots that virtually published the address of a minor who has not been convicted of a crime, and may not have even been charged.

I see absolutely no details in that link. Base on it, I am not even close to assuming the police failed, or the administration, or the school officials, or the courts.

The only people I am prepared to accuse of being incompetent at this time are the journalists who wrote and published the article.

No details.

The story is WAY short on details. I will say that if the kid was exhibiting behavior which when combined with an obvious penchant for firearms could lead to another school shooting, then perhaps it wasn't the worst idea.

Remember in the school shooting thread the consensus for the most part was it is high time to address the underlying mental issues rather than the tool/symbol. That might be what they were trying to do. Is doing this going to be perfect? No.

Of course not. Also, all systems go though that awkward phase. Along with all reported events, little info is given, and everyone must draw their own conclusions until further information is released. This is a delicate issue and if I'm the PR officer, I'm giving as little information as possible. I was not far from being a PR LEO recently, myself.
