First off, I want to say this was not aliens nor alcohol induced delusions....
OK, I don't want this to sound like I'm a nut or seeing things or whatever.... Last night I was taking the dogs out at 11pm and noticed multiple hovering lights over much of the 267/I65 warehouse areas. Appeared to be ~500' up, 3 appeared to be hovering in one location, the closest one was moving slowly towards the house. As I put the first dog in and brought out the second one the one closest had moved around the edges of out property and was literally hovering over the road in front of the house.
How did I know it was a drone? Well, for once the traffic on I65 was quieter (denser air), the dryers were not running on either of the grain bins close to me and I could actually hear the super slight hum/buzz of the blades and their minute change in pitch to counter the light breeze. So weird I felt violated... or not. there was no anal probing so maybe I missed out?
Any idea why/what these were out doing?
Are you near any sensitive installations?

I bet you got a nosy neighbor, probably was out testing an infrared camera and their spy skills.
Sheriffs office down here in Monroe County use drones.
There was a guy who appeared to be on crack or something in front of my house one night so the wife called the cops. I saw the sheriff car go past the house and park and there was a drone flying all around the area just a few seconds later. I assume they must have night vision... it was probably 11:30pm.
These were spread out several miles, most of that over warehouses. I checked the scanner app last night and did not hear anything about a search but ????

Probably an Amazon security drone with prototype AI and lethal weapons. I wouldn't worry about it.

My money is on cops. Multiple drones are way cheaper to operate than a single helicopter.

Can confirm this after watching a few recent episodes of On Patrol: Live. Drones can be a little harder to spot in the sky, too.
You've talked about the development going on in your area before - any chance it was a survey / research thing for further development? Building warehouses and distribution centers is expensive, maybe they're just making long term plans.

are there any limits to how much u invade a persons privacy using drone technology? If I have a gun permit, can I have an armed drone hovering over the house within property lines, defending the place?
with todays imaging technology I don't have to be anywhere near your open windows to see what u and the fam are up to I I assume that is all legal?
I never thought about it before. I'm near an airport, so I'm less likely to have to deal with this.

This is likely the case they have been scanning most of California looking for fire risks. Story's of people loosing insurance due to lichen on roofs, pools that are not full or maintained, cars in the back yard. The big one is not having fire breaks out here if you state that you do have them.

Yea they have been so cutthroat here in Florida with that and in California. I find it hilarious you can make an insurance claim and they won't even send an agent out to document it and trust the pictures you send them; however, then they are doing this.
But to Bob's original post, likely security, police, or insurance drones.
Bob get a shotgun net system. Capture one, call the local constables, and state that they've been invading your privacy. If it's the police, hire a lawyer.
It probably was a drone tbh. Theyre becoming more common.

Maybe they are running IR camera's looking for grow rooms and meth production. They do that here quite a bit as well.

In the past black helicopters were flying over your house scanning for the identification strip inside 100 dollar bills. They were finding out who is sitting on a lot of cash. (Drug dealers, anti-government people)
Now they've upgraded to drones.
One note, shooting at a drone is, from the FAA's perspective, roughly equivalent to shooting at an aircraft. So I would not recommend it except in the most dire of circumstances. Even a net gun is a bad idea.
Now, if they're obviously filming in your windows, maybe it would be a "forgiveness vs permission" situation.
