Well maybe not an explosion.

While working out in the garage, the outer pane of one of the door windows broke.

I souls not find any evidence that it had help as ther is currently 3 inches of snow and growing .

I I believe but could be wrong that it was OK earlier as I was looking out them a couple hours prior, just like when I noticed it.

Is it out of the realm that it just self distrusted?

Is it possible that it was cracked already and a temperature change caused it to break?  Bird strike maybe?

Quite possible nothing impacted it to cause this. Or previous impact caused a tiny chip or crack that failed later. Probably a million potential causes.  Manufacturing defect such as an inclusion in the glass, part of the frame squeezing the glass and preventing it from moving freely with temp changes resulting in a stress concentration, etc., etc.
