My son qualified to be part of this program. We are going to register him for it.
Just curious if anyone has or had a child in it and what your thoughts on the program is?

My son was identified for this program & registered back in 1995 or so. He was living with his mother at the time and she didn't share much about it with me. I'm not aware of any benefits for my son.
Across the street neighbor's daughter qualified last year. All 4 of their kids were in a charter school at the time. Her siblings are now being home schooled but the TIP daughter is still attending the charter school because she's in the program. Parents seem to think it's a good thing.
I'd think that at the very least, being in the program should get you son some attention from "better" universities going forward.

We went to the parent information meeting yesterday evening. At least in our school district it seems how much involvement the school has is up to each individual school. I believe we're going to speak to his school counselor about what his particular school does in regards to the program.
Thanks for bringing this up. Little Stampie got his letter last week. I'd also like to hear more if anyone has experience.

Congratulations! It's a pretty cool feeling when your kid does good isn't it?
I just hope to find a way to keep him engaged as we get closer to the teenage years.
First two kids have done it and the third needs to be signed up for the ACT after getting her letter. The main advantage for us has been the ability to "test drive" schools and majors through their summer programs. Right now they want kids to basically pick their school and career by their junior year of highschool. These camps give the kids a taste of living in dorms and trying out different subjects at close to the introductory college level.
We also get thousands and thousands of mailers for every damn school in the country.
