Why the hell do people drive during the day with their brights on?

I work at a Ford dealership, and probably 40-50% of the cars that come in, have their brights on. Is this just where people are used to doing this before the advent of daytime running lights? It's annoying as hell. LOL

I think that people want to drive during the day with their head lights on and they forgot that they had left their brights on when they came home last night.

My father is a service writer and has been in Ford dealerships since the 80's. We would like to remind you MG drivers that those aren't purse hangers. Thats the choke.

My father hates people, he hates cars, and he hates people that drive cars. Perfect for service.

That's better than the folks that drive around at night with only their DRL's. Then they look at me like I'm an idiot when I flash my lights at them.

Or folks who drive in pitch dark with just their fog lights on....uh...they're fog lights, not headlights.

I think between DRLs and the advent of illuminescent instruments, probably 40% of the cars I see driving around at night do not have their lights on. If it weren't for suburban street lighting there would be many many more rear-enders since the idiots are practically invisible from behind.

I can't stand motorcycles who do it - and they think they are being extra safe.. it messes so bad with people's eyes with depth they end up getting pulled on in front of more..

I can understand , sorta , the motorcycle bright light thing... on dim during the day many of them really don't catch your eye / attention , and that's the reason for them to have to burn their headlight at all times... just wish they'd remember that at night I can see them quite easily

as to the cars with their brights on ? .... with the modern day ECU's it seems that it would be pretty simple ( a few lines of code ??? ) for the lights to recycle to dim every time they're turned off, end of problem... 'course that just adds to the dumbing down of the modern day driver

It is legal to run an auto-flasher in many states. It must pulse and a specific rate that isn't too annoying. I appreciate them as a four wheel vehicle driver.

Maybe, just maybe, these folks don't realize they have their high beams on because that little (blue, at least in my car) light that "tells" them they have their brights on is barely visible? I sometimes think that the "idiot light" for the high beams and the green light for the turn signals should be A LOT BIGGER/BRIGHTER so that folks know when their brights are on and when they have had their turn signals flashing for miles.

my brother's 04 Cavalier doesn't have functional headlights- DRL only.. he's been thru about 6 headlight switches on that thing and has just given up on it and drives with the DRL's only.

Deer don''t show up very well with DRL's.

Other than the fact that he hasn't gotten a ticket for no tailights nor headlites after sunset.
