That looks like my backyard and I've not heard about it. And I know quite a few nomad types that literally explore full time and live in tents. Pretty cool.

Looking at the picture it looks to have some sort of fasteners/rivets regularly spaced up the sides?.. probably aluminum, or stainless? I'd be interested to know more.

I think I have a pretty good idea where it is, or at least where that helicopter was flying recently. The problem is that the flight is so eratic in terms of speed and elevation that its difficult to pinpoint where they might have parked the bird while checking the thing out. For all we know, they dropped off some of the crew and kept flying.
Oh, and I also can only get info from the 14th and prior, so it might have been someplace different late last week.

I also found this picture, which I think is best of the surronding area.
A redditor found it from satellite images, it's at 38.34301098,-109.66609761 and has apparently been there since at least August 2015.
That's a Prothean Obelisk if I've ever seen one. The only thing 2020 hasn't had is Reapers

If we're lucky it's been put somewhere else for the next round of the game. If we're not lucky, it's been stolen to go in somebody's private collection...or maybe the mothership came back and picked it up
One of the people who travelled to it said it sounded like a cardboard box when he knocked on it, rather than like an oil drum as you might've expected, so the skin is not sheet metal but some other material with a metallic coating, maybe coroplast?
The talking heads on local radio were making a fuss about some guy who found it and stated that magnets won't stick to it.
Magnets won't stick to a lot of things. Stainless being one of them, plastic, wood, fiberglass....
