How stupid are we?
NPR is running a piece today highlighting e cigarettes. Completely unregulated, including for minors.
It described middle school children "vaping" IN CLASS, and yummy flavors like bubble gum and cotton candy.
Seriously?
Why don't we offer cocaine practice kits (including rubber arm straps and fake harmless needles) so they can have practice and fun at other harmful adult behavior??
How about dry humping parties during recess? Kids can have fun grinding their hips together- perhaps without clothing, as long as there is no penetration. After a few minutes, switch partners until you have humped every male and female on the playground??
This is so stupid it is pathetic.
Wake up people. E cigarettes are manufactured by tobacco companies. Im sure they are completely committed to the future health of our populace- they certainly wouldn't want anyone to be addicted, now would they?
I worked for a chemical company. We made the e cigarette chemicals for RJR. Trust me, they had no good intentions, and were perfectly happy with as many addicted consumers as possible. (RJR required ALL their employees to smoke, until very recently.)
Trusting tobacco companies with the future health and welfare of our children is like asking a drug dealer to make sure our kids don't try anything harmful.
I cant believe how stupid we are sometimes.
Thought coke went in the nose, it was horse in the arm?
But yeah. Society sucks.
Yep society is a bunch of idiots. Sometimes we trust oil companies over climate scientists too. ducks

I heard that this morning as well... I was not impressed with the segment on the whole.
Yep, and sometimes parents suck too. You don't need regulations to smack a kid upside the head for being stupid.
I would have loved dry humping parties at recess in middle school!

The actual technique is not important, as long as we offer our kids broad and expansive exposure to stupid ideas.
Consider it cross-training.

FWIW, I was not suggesting a government solution.
I was ranting at us stupid parents who allow this kind of BS and say NOTHING.

Who says the parents know about it?
I have seen pregnant women smoke( So I would assume that would vapor), and it clearly states and is common knowledge not to smoke. So we have to depend on the government to take things away from people, because they are idiots. My solution for this problem is if people smoke or vapor they are not eligible for medical care, I rather see that regulation then what the government is doing currently with the waste of money campaign to stop people from smoking. Everybody knows that smoking is bad, let Darwinism take its course.

That won't work. Medical care is now required for "all", including pre-existing conditions like gross stupidity.
I treat those things just like regular cigarettes. I have no idea what you are breathing out in your vapor trail, and I have no intention of inhaling your unregulated chemicals. A lady was using one right in front of me in a movie theater, and I had her tossed. I hope the government wakes up and bans those stupid things a lot quicker then they took for regular cancer sticks.
This isn't anything new. Remember candy cigarettes (anyone over the age of 30 should)? What's new is the lack of parenting skills these days.
Whether we like it or not...and I'm not a smoker...tobacco isn't illegal. Alcohol isn't illegal either and it can be really bad for you too. As the father of 3, I see it as my responsibility to teach my kids to make responsible choices, regardless of marketing.
50 years ago, asbestos was perfectly safe..

They are both illegal for minors.
Marketing those products to minors is also illegal.
Candy flavored vaping is marketing smoking to minors, plain and simple.

Nah, I see that as marketing to the Bob Costas hipsters versus minors. E-cigs are 18yo+ here......and I personally think they're berkeleying stupid, and I'm a smoker.

Who says the parents know about it?
Every parent who has read this thread now knows.
Every parent who listens to NPR now knows.
Lobby your school board and make some changes. Fire the administrators who won't make good choices and guidelines.
Get to work.

Really? Is that published somewhere? Seems very far from legal.

So, you apparent think bubble gum is a favorite flavor among hipsters.
I find that position to be incredibly naive.

I suspect they've worked hard to bury it, but it was most certainly in their corporate policy.
Bubblegum mixed with watermelon smells fantastic.
I keep thinking people are smoking dope (especially the chrome ones) when I see them but realize it's an E-Cig when there isn't the tell-tale odor. Nicotine is one of the most addictive substances on earth and marketing these as a safe alternative is ludacris. (I quit 4 years ago after a horrible cold haven't had a craving since).

Not naive, just pointing out thats what all the hipsters in my area are using now.....Those same hipsters used to smoke the american spirits that I do.....except they thought they were nicotine free due to the "No Additives" marking on the package. Those berkeleying retards are berkeleying retards.

They're not and they aren't. They are however an easy way to ease your way off of cigarettes and I know plenty of people who have used them to stop.
