I'm not an audiophile and the thought of this makes even me cringe a bit, but are there any smartphone earbuds that are reasonably decent? I want something I can use to listen to music while driving the Miata around. Something with a microphone so that I can use my phone as a phone, too.
I'd say my preference is the style that sits in the outer ear rather than the plugs that go into the ear canal.
Any suggestions?
I use some Altecs when i'm working out or don't want the headphones to mess up my flowing locks. They sound pretty good.
But... those are plugs that go in the canal.

I'm not totally opposed to the canal ones, just think I'll have better luck with the other kind. The ones that came with my phone were canal type and sucked. The one for the right ear would not stay in.

Most quality buds of that style will come with 2-3 different sizes of plugs that you can swap.
That said, even sometimes certain models just won't work.
I went through a two week period where i bought up any of the halfway decent quality buds that showed up on 1saleaday.com. Ended up with i think 6 sets total, found two out of all that that i really liked.
Luckily they were DIRT cheap through there. I'd suggest checking that out... usually $10-$20 with free shipping for decent stuff.
There's far better out there, but when i need quality like that, i have a 2-channel stereo setup.
Any of the Sennheiser MX-series should be good, they'll run about $20:

I just got a set of Sennheiser cx150 for $18 on newegg last week... MSRP at $80... looks like newegg has em now for $49... they are ear canal (IEM) types and sounds pretty good... I like my akg k240 over ears far more but wanted something small, cheap and that blocked a bit more noise
come with 3 different silicon sized things so you should be able to find one that fits... i'm still playing with mine... I might to find the right fit... but the ear bud style NEVER stayed in my ears at all... so I always had to find one that clipped to my ears :-/ the sennheisers are a bit better but still not perfect, looking into trying out the foamies option on em

I've had great experience with the SkullCandy earbuds. They're affordable, and they have a lifetime warranty with a really simple claim process. I'm on my second pair after a warranty claim, and I have NO complaints about them whatsoever.
