I guess so - I'm only relaying what the eBay rep told me.  If you don't sell on eBay, you won't really notice a difference.

After a bit of digging, it looks like my bank will set up a second account without any additional fees.  So I guess I'll try that.

I'm a long time ebayer since almost the beginning and last couple years I've been selling regularly on eBay. This went into effect for me a few months ago and it was not optional and appears to be rolling out in stages. Buyers can still pay by PayPal if they change their payment method but the default is eBay (surprise surprise) It sucks because they make you choose a payment schedule. I, like others used to keep a balance on my PayPal and if I wanted to withdraw transfers were within 1 day or I could pay to get it immediately. The switch over caused a nice chunk of money to be held in limbo with the initial transfer. My PayPal is seldom used now. Refunds are not much worse than PayPal but I find myself using my desktop a lot more often now to conduct business. There was a snafu where I needed to refund something paid via PayPal but I didn't realize I had to transfer money back into my PayPal in order to do so. I make decent money on there so I'll deal.

I like an air gap on my online transactions as much as possible.

Just add  11%  to your selling price if the 10% fee really bothers you that much. The short of it is do the math and calculate your net. Don't like it raise you price. I don't get the problem here.

I just do not like the 10% fee also on shipping that you are not allowed to tell the buyer ,

I understand why they did it , people were selling  items for $1 and $499 shipping to not pay the full  fee ,  but we look like the dog charging too much for shipping.

I just use the pre-paid eBay system for shipping.  Before I even list an item, I have it boxed and weighed so I can enter than info when I list it. Then the buyer pays for the shipping and the system more or less spits out a shipping label for me.  Then I drop it off at the post office across the street from me. It's another thing I like about selling on eBay - shipping is easy.

However I believe you are still being charged The Ebay fee percentage on the shipping cost. So most of us who sell frequently add to the shipping we know we'll be charged by using "Fixed shipping and handling" and including enough to cover the additional fee Ebay charges on the shipping. If we didn't do that, the Ebay fee on the shipping cost would come out of the money we get for the item. In your case I believe that's whats occuring, you're paying the fee Ebay charges on shipping fees and it's coming out of whatever you get for the items. If you only sell an item once in a while and the shipping expense isn't a lot compared to the item cost then probably not a big deal to you.

Below info is copied & pasted from Ebay.

"Final value fees

We charge a final value fee when your item sells.

This fee is calculated as a percentage of the total amount of the sale. The total amount of the sale includes the item price, and any shipping and handling charges. Sales tax isn't included in the calculation."

Yes, I've read that and it doesn't really bother me.  I've also noticed that how much the buyer pays for shipping is sometimes less than I'm actually charged (sometimes more, if I add extra insurance).

I suppose it also depends on how you are using eBay. For me, it's just way to unload stuff in my house for the least amount of aggravation.  I do no reserve auctions with $1 starting bids. The extra cash is nice, but my #1 goal is stuff out of my house.  And sometimes the auctions are fun to watch - seeing what sort of crazy bids come in at the last minute - which was definitely the case when it came to the vintage BMX parts I sold.

So because I'm keeping an eye on the Ebay change I noticed this quirk in my payout for the first day after switching to the new payout system.

Item A   Sold for $8.00 plus $4.00 shipping $12.00 total.   Ebay fees $1.78   Payout = $10.22

Item B   Sold for $8.00 plus $3.50 shipping $11.50 total.    Ebay fees  $1.83  Payout =  $9.67

Fees ranged from 12.75% on a total sale of $75.50 to 16% on a total sale of $8.50 so on the low end sale the fees were $1.35 on an item that sold for $5.00 plus $3.50 shipping. The fees on the $5.00 item were more than 25% of what the item sold for, and that's why we're sort of pushed into using fixed shipping and upping the cost to cover the fees.

Five items sold for that day for $86.00 combined without shipping and Ebay collected $16.00 from me. That's over 18% of what the items sold for. I may have to back to having an Ebay store to try and lower expenses.

Meanwhile Ebay is still using money out of my Paypal account to cover shipping costs, so now (if they continue doing that) they'll eventually drain my Paypal balance and I'll have to start transferring money back into Paypal to cover the shipping expenses. Grrrrr.

Ebay also is using paypal to pay fee's still. So is this a temporary move by them? what are the savings for having a store? is it worth it for someone who sells 5-10 items a year?

This is relevant to me as I planned on listing a truck on ebay to help with pricing it properly.  Its one of those trucks that's probably worth $2000, but it's a low-mileage 1994 in really nice condition, so I'm sure there is a sucker out there who would pay $4000 because they just gotta have it.

Can I hook it to a savings account?  I have an old savings account that I keep forgetting to close with like $700 in it at a bank that has no other accounts with me.

Update:

Coincidence perhaps, but the account I gave Ebay the info for got hacked. So I've spent most of the afternoon on the phone with Chase business fraud people. I am NOT happy, as I sit here on hold.

Meanwhile I had several sales of item B above that sold the following day with the same $11.50 total.   Ebay charged me $1.72 fees on each of them so I'm curious why they charged $1.83 on the first one. Inconsistency doesn't instill confidence.

Best idea yet. Link your bank account with them, when they, inevitably, "accidentally" share your account info with others, you get a fat stack back from lawsuits that ensue.
