Wow. It's finally over. I thought McCain gave a very nice speech and I hope that the country is able to find some unity in the next four years.
Very classy speech by McCain. Congrats, Obama- Please, please, don't screw this up!
Man, I can't wait to get out of work tonight (supposed to be midnight, but I'll stay for the speech)- all I'm hearing right now is how supposedly Obama is going to run our country into the ground. I hate politics...
well you know how in movies when the planet is about to blow up the president is always black? well obama will be president in 2012
I'm moving to Canada.
All I can hope (because I assume all politicians are worthless) is that nothing happens to our new President elect in office.
It would make the LA rights look tame....

To everyone who felt invested in this whole thing, congrats for the efforts you put forward. To those who "won" tonight, do your best to take the feeling of involvement you've had for the past days, weeks, months, or years, and don't let it fade. To those who "lost" tonight, continue your fight for what you believe in.
To Dr. Hess - Berkeley you. (I kid, I kid)
I'm moving to Canada.
Lots of space up here. Low population density for the size, economy isn't doing too bad.
Also note that not only is a black president always in charge of the USA during the end of the world, but typically the black guy always dies first in any horror movie (ie: Jason movies). Just thought I'd throw that out there. ;)
Seriously though, I HOPE the right decision was made. I don't really agree with Obama with alot of things, but if he can make it work, great!
Edit- Jeebus, stat off of CNN:
And minorities went heavily into the Obama camp. Blacks, 96 percent Obama to 3 percent McCain;
Er, how many african-americans live in the USA? Thats a HUGE friekin' percent!

I suspect they've already built in the Obama cushion, and the election being over will bump it a few points.
Fake low gas prices, how I will miss ye.
Great speeches from both candidates. I had confidence that either candidate could take the country in a positive direction; McCain's running mate, however, simply represents a mindset that I just couldn't get behind.
I'm also disappointed with how amendment 2 turned out here in FL. Given the (relative) ease to amend our state constitution, hopefully it can be changed once again somewhere down the line.

So far the markets are responding nicely: http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/11/04/world-markets-cheer-obama/
I wonder if four years of a socialist nanny state will be easier to undo than four more years of war-mongering and a war in Iran would have been.
We all lost tonight, regardless of who won.

Which one was 2? (FWIW my absentee ballot never came.) Was 2 the gay union one? I had a rather heated phone discussion with someone who voted for that one this morning. I said no matter how sensibly it was worded, it was still grounded in a bigoted and hateful agenda.
Yes, that was the one. Do people really see their marriage like the stock market, where new shares being introduced will lower the value of theirs? Well, I guess so, since nowadays there's such a high likelihood of a marriage crashing.

I suspect we'll get to test both!
I really hope this sent a message to the GOP that they've obviously lost touch with their true base trying to court one group.

You realize in those movies they always nail Canada first right?

I was just listening to BBC on NPR. The overwhelming support for Obama from Europe is making them almost as happy as Democrats are in America.
By the way... was anyone watching FoxNews for the victory speech? I laughed my arse off when the Fox anchor summed his speech up by saying, "with the lofty rhetoric that has become a hallmark of his campaign, I thought maybe we could go home and the morning crew could wrap this up." I have no love for sore losers, especially when they are providing coverage of one of the most historic events of American history. Walter Cronkite is still vomiting right now.
Fox News needs to die a slow, painful death. Oh wait... they already are :)
I don't believe that. I'm happy with the results and hope that the Obama White House fulfills its potential.
But hey, I drive a Saab, so what do you expect?

I could gloat.. But I won't...
I'm going to "reach across the aisle" and extend an olive branch to all...Ok...
Nothing but blue sky ahead... Just keep pushing forward.
I hope it's the last poltical thread. My feelings on the subject are not as strong as some here, but I'm a little miffed at today's paper, it shows a black woman in her mid 40s "voting for the first time in her life"; she was born in Albany and always been a U.S citizen. It's nice that Obama can rally people to take an interest in politices, but the "lets get behind a brother" attitude concerns me. "Cides, we gets a check."

I would counter that with the guy in front of me in line in charleston SC, bragging about his son's underage drinking exploits. He was classy..
No matter what the outcome, I get to utter the following phrase over the next four years:
"Don't blame me. I voted for Bob Barr."
