I have seen the light: for all of the part of my life that I've had to shave, I've used an electric razor. I finally got fed up with how bad of a job they do, even when expensive and new. So I went and bought a manual razor and a can of shaving cream (the one that looks like a barber pole, I don't do brand names).
I'm never going back. It only took like 3 minutes longer than an electric would've, and it actually took hair off my face, whereas an electric would take some hair off of part of my face, and leave me looking unevenly unshaven and like an idiot.
What's your preference?
Gillette Mach 3 for the entire head 
I have never shaved regularly, and pretty much have no use for it. For about 30 years, I shaved about once a week, and since I have a pretty heavy growth, always looked like I needed to.
Since I started cutting my own hair with this
I just take the attachment off, and use it. I still only do it once a week, but it takes about 15 seconds, and looks fine.
If I really have to, I have a Mach 3 (turbo, of course) that I use for a proper shave. It works incredibly well.
multi-blade razor (I forget which because I bought a whole case of blades at Costco likke 5yrs ago), barbasol & hot water.
If there are no customer facing meetings or other reason to be presentable... I pass. That is probably why a case of razor cartridges is going to last me a decade.

Combination of beard trimmer and bulk pack disposable twin blades. Use the beard trimmer for the heavy cutting, use the blades for the clean up. Don't shave that often.

Do not drop it in the shower
I use both manual and electric. There are spots each type does better than the other so I use the electric and finish off in the shower.
I use the Mach 3. I've tried the 5 blade but it's too bulky and doesn't do the tight spots as well.
That way I don't have those annoying small sections of beard left right by my lips (or cut my lips off with the manual) and there's much less pull, drag and pain from the manual.
The Norelco electric while easy and fast doesn't cut my beard quite short enough and even tho I'm not one with a heavy beard by mid afternoon I've got a shadow which can be quite comical during cold season when you have to blow your nose.
On the weekend I usually just use the electric and if I go out at night I do it again. The electric is just too easy to do away with it entirely.
But I have a pet peeve about both of them THE COST OF BLADES! It's like in color printers, they could afford to give you the printer/razor for the cost of the ink!

What is this shaving thing you are all talking about?
I use whatever comes in the mail for free, Gillette Fusion Power for the now, a shaving brush and soap. The only issue is the soap cakes are getting harder to find without going online.

Three-blade disposables, either Bic Advance or Gillette Sensor 3's.
Used every other day while showering ,with soap (usually Ivory) as a substitute for shaving cream - works just fine and the blades last at least a couple of months (each).

Used one (2 actually) for a decade or so. Best advice: Gillette Mach 3.

I've been using Mach 3 for about 10 years now. Is there a lower cost alternative for the blades? It kills me to buy them (even though I go a month or more on a blade).

Using the electric and following up with the manual in the shower will extend your blade life by a factor of 2 to 3, but still the blade costs are ridiculous.
