When I had my enclosed trailer, my friend wanted to put "Dead Hooker Moving and Storage" on it.
As much as I like the idea of subterfuge, ambiguity will probably be your best (but least funny) bet.

OK, how about a fourth option:
Not total ambiguity (i.e. the plain white trailer), but something that still falls far short of vanity. Maybe a simple two-tone paint job, with identifying vinyl numbers on the roof. You could even add tiny (one inch) "Property of" letters on the tailgate or side
Seems I recall a recent thread where a guy got his trailer back quick because it had numbers on the roof.
What if you put a vinyl wrap on it that made it look like an empty open trailer? Its genius I tell you!

I never get tailgated as much as when I'm towing the horse trailer.
Asking them nicely doesn't work either. I'm thinking of getting new vinyl that says "Tailgate me and I'll go even slower."
Mine is blank white but I park it under a canopy of pine trees so it is decorated with sap, and dirt that sticks to sap.
After a rash of thefts at hotels near race tracks I briefly considered putting FBI Forensic Crime Unit stencils all over it.
Yeah a mural might make people think there are musical instruments or drugs inside
Subterfuge option: Joe's Hazardous Materials Cleanup, you can paint some guys in HAZMAT suits cleaning up glowing green goo or nasty-looking bubbling stuff on the sides.
Humility option: ZAV paint job (some kind of cheap brush-on paint), it'll be easy to fix too.
What if you did disguse it as a camper?
Hear me out? What valuable things would people be after in a camper?
You also skirt the DOT difficulty as far as commercial woes.
Install some windows and always have the drapes drawn, vinyl package for "southwind" or some such nonsense. You even have a reason to install a retractable awning on the side.
So much of it would make it also a much kinder base of operations at the track. Added light, comfort, and awnings, steps, etc...
Or is that a dumb idea?
^^^good idea, but I'm not done fabricating my car. I don't need a bunch of trailer mods to distract me.
Ha! I was just thinking along the camper idea too. I was thinking a vehicle wrap making it look like a camper, not going as far as adding functional windows, just images of them. Up close it would be obvious, but from a distance it would just look like a boxy camper.
I've never seen an enclosed horse trailer, although maybe a really convincing paint job could pull it off
The "disguise it as a camper" idea sounds good.
Just realized that JoeyM started this thread. The thiefs are going to open the trailer find an old Datsun made of dryers and hot water furnaces and put it back.

Thats why the DJ I work for every once and awhile leaves all his blank......that and 26x8.5 being towed by an expedition is a bit much(and draws enough suspicion to weigh stations).......oh, the trailer is usually completely full with sound, lighting, rigging, and truss.
