Skipping the gory details, I've been compelled to start taking medication that doesn't mix with alcohol. So for the first time in my 40+ years of swilling suds, I'm contemplating non-alcoholic beer.
I bought my first 6-pack yesterday, randomly choosing something called 'Clausthaler'. It reminds me of a veggie-burger - not horrible, but no chance of being mistaken for the real thing.
Any recommendations? (other than just throw in the towel and die young)
Is there such a thing as a non-alcoholic IPA?
beer is nasty with benefits. Near beer is nasty
Cannabis + sweet tea.
NA beer is a waste of money and tastebuds. Sorry.
If you're after particular recommendations, I can tell you not to bother with Bitburger Drive.
I was sitting at a bar, wanted something to drink, and couldn't have any booze right then. I ordered one, and it was deeply wretched.
I haven't tried them all, but I suspect that you may have more luck finding something tasty which is non-alcoholic in its natural state...
I haven't explored options in this area for about 5 years, but O'douls used to make an amber non-alcoholic beer that wasn't too bad. Otherwise I've only had pilsner style non-alcohol beers and Old Milwaukee's version was the best of the ones I've tried.
In reply to bludroptop:
Clausthaler was the first alcolhol-free beer that was widely available in Germany. It was pretty dire back then and hasn't improved, sorry.

Have you considered not drinking NA beer?
I had some medicine that prevented me from drinking any alcohol or caffeine, I lost almost 15 pounds in 3 months.
try out one of the vast variants of root beer? i'm still amazed at how many variety there is of the stuff... some good but not something I want to drink regularly, others just simple but good and others just meh...
In the U.S., I haven't found any NA beer that would be worth the time. In Germany, I found non-alcoholic hefeweizen to be actually pretty reasonable. I tried Krombacher NA weizen at a conference at it was pretty good for the situation. I have no idea if you can find it over here though.
Never heard of a non-alcohol IPA. You'll run into something very similar to gluten free beer, which is that there just isn't enough market to support people who want specialty styles, so you'll get the most middle of the road stuff possible.
I've heard Kaliber is probably your best choice though.
Are you truly limited to non-alcoholic? Can you do 3.2%?
Realistically, I'd switch to craft soda. Virgil's rootbeer is the shiznit.

This, I like Sprecher, you can find it at Menard's of all places.
Cutter's, O'Doul's (try the Dark, I think) don't taste too bad. Keep in mind, though that they all have a very slight EtOH content. 0.5? Less?
Sorry about your loss :(
I Think Becks makes one. Got it for mama a couple times when she was prego. It really wasn't too bad.
Personally, I'd follow GPS's suggestion. Use butter. Make cookies, brownies, etc.
