Hey, not a canoe!
I wear one of those skate/park helmets when riding, even in the neighborhood, because I figure my life is worth the $49. After my ride the other day, I went to hang up my helmet and the strap just breaks--like, broken. At least it didn't happen when I needed the helmet to protect me.
I figured I'd do some online shopping. Pro-Tec was the big brand back in the day, and still looks like they cater to that market. They had CPSC-approved helmets for about $69. Then they had some models on sale for less than $50.
For giggles, I Googled the model name for the helmet that I liked the most. I found it at 6pm.com for less than $30 with free shipping. It's last year's model, but I really don't care that the graphics have changed slightly. I trust that the kids at the skatepark won't hassle me about that. Looks like 6pm.com is Zappo's discount department. It's mostly shoes and clothes.
Order was placed over the weekend, and the helmet arrived today. It's exactly as ordered. Anyway, since we're all looking for a deal, maybe they have what you're looking for.
I try to support my local shop, but in this case I just wanted what I wanted.
