I liked the threat from someone in the neighborhood of "what goes around comes around".

"He died in the arms of God" just because he died near a Baptist church? With a gun in his hand where he'd just threatened to kill some other people! That didn't count for anything? Boy the Monday morning quarterbacks were at work in that neighborhood and in that article.

He's white, they were black and that all that matters to most people. Now if they'd have shot him it would have been a back page story.

I have been on the wrong end of a shotgun and a handgun and had I had access to a shotgun I wouldn't have hesitated to shot them. It felt like I had the barrel of a shotgun poked almost thru my neck. I calmly, yeah right!, moved the barrel away from my neck and told them I'd cooperate and why didn't they tie me up so I couldn't get in their way. Fortunately for me they took my advise. When they went to leave one of them lined up to shoot me, but the other hurried him away.

So race aside what would have been the issue if I'd have shot them? They came into my place of business and threatened my life. They came into his business and threatened his life and all his co workers. Are their lives any less important than the robbers just cause they were black? We don't know the race of the other workers, but it doesn't matter really. Race doesn't matter in this issue. They did wrong not him.

Good attitude. If they pull a weapon on you, there's a strong chance they are willing to use it. Your life IS in danger at that point and there's nothing wrong with defending yourself.

This is the fundamental problem with that type of situation, and demonstrates why cooperating with thugs is a bad idea.

If there's not downside to robbing people then why shouldn't they make robbing their business rather than work. Or maybe the robbers could use it to supplement their welfare.

Huh???? Did you actually think I was disagreeing with you?? Go back and read my post again. Everything I said agreed with you and said your comment was correct. We were not in disagreement, and I was not trying to start a debate. Don't make the mistake of thinking that every comment made on the internet is an attack.....

If I had wanted to be sarcastic I would have typed < sarcasm > < / sarcasm> to make that clear. FWIW, I own a number of guns, myself.

OK, no problem.....I wasn't certain, and when I looked at my post it seemed as though my wording that impression....I guess I'm the one guilty of thinking an innocent comment was an attack.

Damn, Mr. Augusto Jr. is a hero. Faced down four armed robbers, shot and wounded all of them and killed two. That is a classic case of failure of the victim selection process.

I can’t believe the Police are even considering charges for him having a shotgun. I hope they didn’t confiscate the weapon. If so I would expect them to have a guard on him and his establishment 24-7. Preferably one that can shoot as well as he did.

The shop owner is by no measure a hero. He killed two people. He is not a villain, either. He did what he had to do, which was a terrible thing. Let's not celebrate death.

unfortunately I agree, I think the 'hood will have their ghetto justice on him.

I think he used an appropriate and proportionate amount of force to defend his and his coworkers lives, not to mention his property. Serves the little asswipes right is all I have to say. Im sorry for their mothers who now have to bury their sons, but perhaps if theyd done a better job as a parent, no one would be in the news today.

He is indeed a hero for saving the lives of fellow employees. Had he not reacted with overwhelming force and violence the perps way well have harmed or killed an innocent victim.

I do not celebrate the death of any living creature, but when a person who has free will chooses to threaten and attempts to take the life of a fellow human and is stopped, I do feel that they have chosen and accepted the consequence.

Gus, it appears in this case will carry the choice of his actions with him the rest of his days.

there aren't many times to celebrate death.... though this may be one of the few.... he provided a great community service.... these a$$ holes would have continued to prey on others, probably killing along the way, and with the current attitude of our courts it wouldn't matter what the police did (unless they did the killing)

by saving the lives of his employes I say he is a hero.

I agree, he didn't seek the guys out to kill them, he protected his life and others when they came to him. HERO

Definitely hero. He put his life at risk to preserve the lives of others and himself. Hero.

Not to mention he saved the taxpayers the cost of two trials. That make him a hero in my book. Too bad he didn't take care of the other two.

I haven't heard from anyone, black or white that has thought the shop keeper was wrong, except for a few anti gun nuts who feel he should burn in hell for thinking about a gun in NYC without the proper permits. Most people seem to fell if you enter a place with guns drawn and an old man still gets the jump on you you weren't cut out to be armed robbers anyway. Most of the people I know want to throw him a parade once he's out of jail.

Not yet but he's got a number of charges depending on the DA's mood.
