And watch a computer clock do that weird 1:59-1:00 thing? I can time travel. I have proof.

Yes. I was at work tonight for daylight savings time. My normal 12 hour shift became a 13 hour shift. And the various clocks in the room ticked back to 1:00 again. And everybody said, "oh, good. It's 1:00 again."

Tonight was a very long night.

Naw, I slept through all the excitement. Trivia: Mercedes clocks are set to automatically do the spring forward/fall back thing, the dates for this are stored in the radio for something like 50 years into the future. So in 2007 the spring forward/fall back dates were changed by Congress, the cars still did it by the old dates and Mercedes has not offered updated programming. So those clocks still change by the old dates, if you change it manually it next time the key is cycled it goes back to what it thinks it should be. Drives those with OCD around the bend.

In reply to confuZion3:

Funny. I was working a 12 hr shift as well that turned into a 13 hour shift. At least I get 1 hr of 'extra' pay.

I did last night.. but not willingly, left work at 2am.. just in time to watch the timeclock cycle back to 1am. I know management will make sure I get paid for the hour, but it was disheartening to see when you know you just worked 12 hours

Nobody has ever mistaken me for ocd, but that would inspire me to drive a pickaxe through the battery.

All you DSTers- I hope you enjoyed your imaginary extra hour of daylight all summer.

I'm just glad we're back to the time that it's supposed to be. All will be well with the world until spring when everything gets all messed up again.

If its an awesome party, I keep coming back to it. A party from 1986 that has like 4 of me there.

I used to close the bar in Ohio at 2:30, then drive to Indiana and drink for another hour. Indiana bars quit serving at 2:30, too, but closed a little later.

Obsolete now

No but I remember standing watch in the engine room on the carrier during the 10-2am shift and dealing with the extra hour on the log sheets. (Then again every time we went to the Med we had time changes every night at 2am for 5 nights straight.)

Nope. Half the time I don't even remember/bother to change the clocks until the next morning unless I'm planning to be somewhere.

my alarm clock is one of those clocks that finds whatever government radio signal is used to set time and goes by that. it turned the clock back an hour last week, so i just did what i always do: change the time zone to make it right again... i had to switch the time zone back today..

i guess my point is this: can't you just change the time zone in those Mercedes?

Curmudgeon

Unfortunately, no. It's smart enough to know what time zone you are in (satellite signal, Isuzu did the same thing with the Axiom) and sets itself accordingly. The time change was moved two weeks on each end, so on the cars so equipped for four weeks the clock thinks it's not DST.

So, if you set the clock, the next time you cycle the key the clock looks at the satellite so it knows what time zone it's in, looks for the date, says to itself 'hmmm, somehow I am showing the wrong time' and pops it right where it thinks it should be. So for two weeks in the spring it's an hour behind, for two weeks in the fall it's an hour ahead. Mercedes to the best of my knowledge never offered a software update for this, probably because it only affects cars earlier than 2007.
