I have noticed. I also spend a lot of time going out doing things like dancing tango where I am one of the better dancers. These two things compound each other. Most extreme was a gal who started playing with my hair and informing me that I look like the Prince from the Czech movie version of Cinderella. This all does not help when I have a girlfriend back home who I miss very badly.

Different area code, doesn't count.

Except for the aversion to deodorant, that's my wife to a Tee, and I can't stand being around her family because they are SO LOUD

That's a lot easier to say than have to live with for the rest of my life. We've been together 6 years. Surviving this will probably be the final test.

My girlfriend (well now fiance, we got engaged this last weekend ) and I went thru 4 years of long distance. It sucks but if you can make it makes you a stronger couple IMHO. Of coarse our long distance isn't the same as y'alls long distance.

Congrats! I'm planning to have some chats to test the waters on the subject in the next couple weeks. Mostly to see how willing she is to follow me wherever I need to relocate for brewing jobs. I suspect I'll be picking up my grandmother's ring to give her when she comes out here to visit here after the program.

1000 miles or 10,000 miles... distance is distance if you can't see each other. I'm glad it's only 6-months, for us, not 4 years. That would really suck. Thank goodness there's Skype.

You've mastered the art of "On the next-to-impossible chance that she does check the GRM message board, I'll have all my bases covered there too..." I'd say you've passed the final test.

You could fail just a little bit. A little game of "just the tip" never hurt anybody.

Back on the original topic... I feel a bit guilty for not speaking German. I tell people I don't and they say, "Oh. English only." Felt really satisfying the other day to clear my tab at a Mexican restaurant by launching into pretty decent Spanish in front of my flatmates. They all seemed taken aback that I actually speak another language.
