This thread makes me think there needs to be a fast food Bratwurst chain... Think of it as a little piece of Road America no matter where you go...

You should see the Wendy's up here. They're really nice and spotlessly clean. Nothing like the ones I've seen in the States. Nonetheless, they had great fries, but now they have these soggy things with the skin still on them, drenched in sea salt. Was my burger default, but I won't go there now because the fries are so bad. They're supposed to be a "real" French fry, but they just seem so soggy, salty and unhealthy.

Exactly what I was thinking. The worlds perfect drunk food. Also great when not drunk. I was really jonesing for one after pouring beer at a festival last weekend.

Ein gemusekebap mit knoblachsose und currysose mit alles, bitte. (Please excuse my lack of umlauts.)

Had a food truck at our Oktoberfest party yesterday that actually had proper currywurst. Better than any I had in Berlin. They said they are thinking about putting in a doner spit, and I told them they need to do kasespaetzel too.

Chick-Fil-A Lemonade: Water, lemon juice (squeezed on-site from actual lemons), sugar. Diet version uses non-sugar sweetener. That's it.

I was going to mention this. Also, Wendy's offers some sort of premium lemondade. Anybody know what's in it?

For me, the worst thing about Chick-fil-A is the crazy long lines they have at lunchtime. The places are crazy popular, so they must be doing something right. Honestly, I know of no better place to get a nice piece of fast-food chicken. Chick-Fil-A chicken is consistently fresh, tender and juicy. There is literally no comparison. The other joints might as well be serving fried cardboard.

Man ya'll are making me appreciate my small town even more. We have 3 great local places for burgers and the like all with REAL fries. One, Nell's In and Out, a small order of curly fries is about the size of a large fry at McDonalds a large is double that. They cut the fries themselves. They also have real lemonade again made in the shop and real icecream milkshakes that are so thick you will cave your head in. They have a huge menu that has a little of everything. We have an old fashion burger and ice cream shop that has been going since the 50's and makes their own waffle cones. We have tiny little drive through place for Greek food run by an old Greek woman that has excellent gyros. The local spots might take a few minutes longer than the traditional fast food joints but they are well worth it. Oh a new place that just opened has five kinds of fries you can order including buffalo fries and if it comes on a bun, in a wrap or on bread they make it. They also make killer salads that are huge for what you pay.

Amen. I have been giving some thought to doing German fast food or a truck when my job is finally automated. I think sauerbraten sandwiches on a nice toasted pumpernickel or a pretzel roll would be great.

Has anyone in here had the magical experience that is a french fry po'boy?

French bread with a ton of fresh fries, dressed (lettuce, tomato, mayo, pickles) with a heavy layer of roast beef gravy on top and on the side for dipping.

It's a french fry sandwich, and I wish I had one right now.

Doner kebabs are also big in the UK, I got looked at like I was from Mars when I asked for one here, I can't believe they are not a big thing over here.

There's a Taco Bell with a sort of mini Pizza Hut near where I work. I haven't gotten around to asking if they could do a personal pan pizza with the chicken and tomatoes from their grilled chicken items.

The Chick-Fil-A jerk chicken idea sounds great too - their new grilled chicken would go great with jerk sauce.

That is unfortunate. Around here it is a store-by-store issue. Funny, since the point of a chain is that they're trying to mitigate the differences store to store. And in the last 3-5 years, pretty much every Wendy's that I've been to around here has been spotless, the exception being the one that is attached the truckstop. I always see them in there cleaning, but the combination of a lot of truckers, it being right off the highway, and it being in something of a ghetto makes it apparently hard to keep up.

Gravy. A good selection,5 or 6 different gravies to go. Pints, quarts and gallons.

It didn't occur to me at the time what that was. You can get those pretty much anywhere up here. Definitely one of the benefits of the multicultural nature of our country is that you can find just about any kind of food you want, even in some of the smaller cities and towns.

I've only had Doner once. Pretty good, but I prefer Schwarma (sp?) and gyros.

Church's is a big greasy mess. The best fried chicken is homemade with Popeye's being 2nd place. Chik-fil-a has too small of portions for what they charge. It is good food but super pricey. As for lemonade Penn Station is probably the best. Fresh made subs and fries that are still potatoes when they come into the store make it a good choice. Chicken teriyaki with extra teriyaki add the onions and mushrooms.

Need a chain that caters to the Scottish Diet:

The Scottish Diet:

«Any and all thing you can eat.

But this proportion always heed:

A third from fat

A third from sugar

A third from alcohol

From time to time, you can eat a small amount of fruits, in the form of jams or preserves, or even better, distilled.»

The Scottish Diet is an ingenious nutritional system invented by the Scots to keep their pension funds in balance by reducing the number of people who make it beyond the age of 60. Like many of the world's smartest inventions (most of them invented by the Scots), it is devilishly simple. It increases the premature death rate through a well-balanced diet.

I love me a Burger King Whopper, but I seldom go, since they changed to the plastic coated "crispy" fries. Whoever decided that crispy is more important than fresh or tasty needs to have their face punched in. I'm ok with the new Wendys fries. Fresher is better, but a bit soggy doesn't hurt my feelings, as long as they are real potatoes at some point.

And Scottish cuisine is based upon a dare.

Because it makes it better. Think German mac and cheese baked in a skillet... only spaetzl. Done best with fried onions and bacon (well... baukspec, because Germany has yet to actually discover bacon.)
