I think the slope of the C pillar here is key:
I think the Chyrsler 200 is on track there, but the tailight is clearly wrong.
This would be a fantastic use of AI software.
In the photo given the windshield looks distorted giving the image a uniquely upright windshield. I don't think we have seen a windshield that upright since the 1957 Chevy.
The diving board rear bumper...maybe Protege of this era:

I was adding this to my search also! My tip here was the awkward front styling lifted off the Crossfire and the likelyhood to have "blingy" wheels from the factory.
My first thought when seeing it was a Chevy Cobalt, like this 2010 LT model. It has that weird greenhouse shape:
Maybe a Cobalt SS?
Yeah it definitely has a diving board rear bumper with really fat C-pillar. Those two are facts, and why IMHO the sentra doesn't work. I think the Sebring is the closest thing I've seen in the thread.
Sentra was my first thought as well. Note that the rear plate is between the tail lights and not down on the bumper. Car has a very short rear decklid. And I'm guessing it's well-loaded, as the rear end seems to be squatting in that grainy pic, or the rear wheel arch is lower than the front, or something?
Good point about the license plate placement. From that I think we can rule out the Avenger, Sebring, and Cobalt.
A really weird possibility that popped into my head, Daewoo Leganza? The shape of the car was so ugly it just made me think Daewoo

I think those are aftermarket wheels, but yeah the rear arch is definitely cut lower than the front.

Came in to say Audi, left convinced this is the right choice.
Oh damn, OP is in Canadia.
I had thought about the accent also, but ruled out because taillight. Maybe they have different ones?
Came here for 2005-ish Accent
Goofy rear lines make it look like the back arch is lower, too.
4 door? - the rear trunk is longer than the 2 door
