It appears a fellow from Indiana came to Sparta Kentucky last week for the Rusty Wallace Experience. He crashed under exceptionally vague circumstances and died today in the hospital. Sucks but having just done one of those "experiences" I have to observe that anyone with a drivers license is allowed to strap into a 650 hp machine and tear around at 150 mph.
I heard about that today too. I've always been amazed that those experiences are so easy to get into. I know several folks who have no business behind the wheel of their SUVs that have done those driving experiences.
I've done them too, most recently the Richard Petty version, there was classroom instruction and ride alongs before turning us loose. The cars are definitely overbuilt and I suspect they are detuned. I can't speak for the Rusty Wallace but the Petty one was well run with safety paramount.

Unfortunately, given enough opportunities with something like this, at some point no matter how careful people are circumstances will converge with a bad result.

The story I read about this stated the accident occurred on the 14th, but he died on the 21st. I don't know all the circumstances, but I'm going with it wasn't the crash that killed him. There's more to this story. Considering the sheer amount of people doing driving schools nearly every day, I'd say they do a fantastic job of keeping everyone safe.
