Old pairs of combat boots. When I can't wear them with my uniform anymore they get shoved out to the garage.

Leather chucks, the midtown lows are my normal go to.

I did this with a pair of army surplus pants. They were baggy and caught a piece of hot something right above my boot. (Insert Benny Hill music with that visual). I really like the slip on idea with protective toes. I too am in and out of the house often. Thank you all for the input!

FWIW, these are the ones I bought. I find them very comfortable and they've held up very well. I keep one of those long shoehorns next to them in the garage since I've got them off and on so often.

Leather Nike Dunks for me. When they get too nasty for daily wear, they go to the garage, before being cycled out. Do a decent job protecting from welding sparks but they're no help when I drop things.

Put me in the flip flop camp... They are my go to shoe if its not super nasty out.... Otherwise its whatever old tennis shoes I have. Yes i have had welding slag between my toes....

When I get new sneakers I relegate the old pair to bang-around duty. I double-knot the laces a bit on the loose side so I can just slip them on and off easy (handy when the dog decides it has to go outside NOW) and use them till they completely fall apart.

I'm in the "old running shoes" camp, basically because they are light and comfortable. When I'm doing something a little more serious, I have a pair of old Timberland Pro boots with steel toes. They have been through a lot, but they are still great.
