Took a new job a couple of months ago. Turned out the gig wasn't what I was interviewed or hired for. Night before last I had a dream I was kidnapped and flown to Russia. I think that was the unconscious sign I'd had enough. Handed in the resignation today. I feel better already.
Congrats! Whats the next step?

Best reason for handing in a resignation letter ever. I really hope you cited that as the reason for your resignation.
BTDT. Twice.
When it gets hard to get up in the morning, it's time to get up for something else.

I like my job but I hate pulling my butt out of bed at 5:00am. Got any tips on that?

I used to have that same problem.
I had to form the habit of waking up, at the same time, every morning, weekends included. I'm up by 6, every morning, religiously, without fail. If I need more sleep, I go to bed earlier. After 20 years, I couldn't sleep till 8 if I had to. I usually wake up 10-15 minutes before the alarm clock goes off.

I wish my job allowed me that. I go back to work Friday when I get back from vacation. 11a till 7p. Then Saturday and Sunday are 4p till the shows are loaded out.. so probably 1 or 2 am.. and Monday will probably be either noon or 3pm

You guys are insane.
I think I got up at 11:30 today. Standard day at work for me.
5 AM is the night before.
I fell for a bait and switch job once. Then was dumb enough to stick with it for almost 4 years.
I was young and didn't have much good stuff on my resume yet, so I thought I was doing the right thing. Several frightening near misses with death from dangerous working conditions and reckless* management gave me years of nightmares and PTSD like symptoms. I should have left a lot sooner than I did.
- By reckless I mean completely freaking crazy and clearly valuing profit far more than than the safety, sanity and well being of employees and the surrounding community.
Oldtin, you made the right call.
I dreamt I farted in front of Paris Hilton at an indoor pool party and she was unfased by it last night.
What should I do?

I'd say a cropdusting experiment is in order.

Obviously, you should run for President.

I've been getting up at 3:30 for years now and I still haven't gotten used to it.

That's a sign that you're an ansomnoic who's living a secret life when you think that you're sleeping and recently robbed a reality television star of millions of dollars worth of jewelry in order to fund the next phase of project mayhem.

Stop. You're breaking the first rule.

Does your workplace have elevators?
Perhaps the only thing I miss about commuting via Metro was being able to crop dust politicians during election season. I actually funked up a congressman once. That makes me a hero of the peoples, right?
To the topic of the thread, my wife ended up firing about three employers for various reasons.
One of them was a bait and switch where she was hired for recruiting and made to lie to people. They wouldnt supply a work computer and expected her to use personal equipment. The boss wanted her to get him a rental car with her personal credit card (oh HELL NO). She fired them, then had to sic the state on them for back pay. Then had to sic the IRS on them for her tax documentation.
Another had her come in, work two hours, clock out, but she had to stick around in case they needed her. Maybe work another hour at the end of the day before going home...
Another was a tire shop, they lied to customers badly and she fired that employer because she felt it was fraud.
Happily, she has a decent job now, not doing what she really wants to, but it has integrity and pays the bills well.

Was that Virginia Tire and Auto by chance? I had an experience with Marty if it was.

She's probably being polite. You should apologize.

Ah I remember when I used to be able to sleep in. Now if I have to be up before 6.
I've never completely got used to it. At first I had a major problem where I thought I was waking up and getting ready, but it was just a dream and then I'd really wake up and I'd have to start all over again. Nearly a decade later I still feel like E36 M3 right now from having to get up so early. The opening time is fairly early in itself but traffic's the real killer.

I always get the feeling when we have these conversations that there are as many bad employers (or hiring managers) are there as bad employees. Unfortunately, it seems that being a bad employer is more culturally acceptable than being a bad employee. That being said, I work with lots of people who I am amazed manage to keep their jobs due to lack of enthusiasm or interest. They barely squeak by doing enough of their duties to remain employed, but good luck asking them to do %1 more than the 75% they already give.
