I downloaded the latest version of Firefox, and now, in the pulldown box of recently typed in websites, it only saves a few of them. the other spot are filled with sites I visited, but didnt actually type in the address. I dont want that. I only want the addresses that I type in. For example, I have grassrootsmotorsports.com, but no Miata.net.

Any ideas?

Joey

As near as I can tell, the newest version places much more emphasis on bookmarked sites. Click the star in the URL bar and it will squirrel the site away for you and then it's available. I think they're thinking is there's no reason to remember everywhere. Maybe. It's kind of weird, if you ask me.

there's a plugin that reverts to FF2.0 styling

Yeah, it seems weird after being so used to 2.0.

I will try the plug in.

many many people are very very annoyed at the new 'smart bar' and have no formal option for it to not do that anymore.

Mozilla has become MS. Its not a bug, its a feature

I've noticed Google has an "awesome bar" (I think we need to start calling these things Awful Bars) now. Can I get Oldbar for Google?

I can see how some people could like these things, but to me it's the worst thing that's happened to GUIs since buttons you can't reach with the keyboard.

I've never understood adding a google toolbar to firefox... it's got a search box up there already.

I like the awesome bar. I also use the bookmarks toolbar extensively so I must be sort of weird.

You don't even need the search box. If you just type your search string into the address/awesome bar, it will google search it if its not a perfect match for a website.

Type "v8 miata" into your FF3 awesome bar and try it out. If you type "grassroots motorsports" in it takes you right to grm.com

Okay, that sort of worked, but it still had all the favorites and such.

I pussed out and went running back to Firefox 2 like someone afraid of change.

After upgrading to the latest version of FF for Mac I lost my Bookmark bar and all my bookmarks.

Anyone have a solution for this?

I've even re-downloaded and installed FF again.

Just talked to a friend of mine and his just did the same thing......hmmmmmmmmmmm

One more tidbit, I hardly ever turn my computer off and this happened to both of us after we turned our computers off for the 2nd time. The first time we restarted was just after we installed the new FF and for both of us this was the very next time the computer was restarted.

while I am still running 3, I am annoyed with it.
I only want it to autocomplete my address not look at titles.
i.e. if I start typing freeautoparts.com by typing free, I don't want it pulling up pornforfree.com that has free in it's title.
very annoying when you aren't the only one using your PC and you don't want to clear out your history constantly.

OK folks.

You guys need to learn about the "about:config" part of Firefox. All the answers to your troubles are there. Oldbar wasn't enough for my wife, I had to set the "onlytyped" flag for her, so that it wouldn't show clicked history items in her address bar.

Check out some of the options in there, and I think you'll find everything you could ever want to make firefox your bitch.

(Oh, to get there, type "about:config" (minus quotes) in your address bar and click away the hassle about your warranty)

I still dont know which line to change to "onlytyped"

I suck at this.

onlytyped does NOT fix the problem I pointed out. I tried several different ways, and the only one that worked was to go back to FF2

In my case it simply quit recognizing the bookmarks file.

What can I do about that, other than go backwards?

How do you get an earlier version of Firefox? When I installed the new version it destroyed the old version and I can't find a link to or even a mention of the older version at Mozilla.

Go to "about:config" and type in "onlytyped" into the filter. The key "browser.urlbar.matchOnlyTyped" set it to "true" by double clicking on it and restarting firefox.

I was more replying to the OP's problem, which matchOnlyTyped should fix. My wife was irritated by the exact same "functionality". Your issue is a little more elusive, more research is required.
