Also, I second bravenrace's motion to import the g-dang frickin' Scirocco for pete's sake. Remind me again why they would supposedly eat into Golf sales in the US, but not anywhere else in the world?

VWOA has always hated the rocco.. from the early 70s on till now. They have this irrational fear it will hurt the sales of the golf...

Don't sciroccos cost more than golfs, so losing a golf sale to one would be a good thing or perhaps a customer moving up market?

American's don't buy that many hatchbacks so they think there is only room for one in their line up. BMW won't bring us the 1 Series hatch because they're afraid of repeating the 318ti flop.

VWoA has a long history of stupid. I know a lot of my VW buddies are buying Honda Fits & Mazda 2s because they won't bring the Polo over here (and if I still had a job, I'd join them). We love our Mk.2 Golf/Jettas, but twenty years is a long stinking time to keep a daily driver healthy.

never considered the 318ti a flop.. it's biggest problem was that it was not as refined as the sedans and coupe's with it's old style rear suspension and cheaper interior.

Personally, I think the 1 series 2 door hatch is the prettiest of the series.
