Wow, buncha haters in here. Who cares if people like to buy these and drift them?
We all want to buy them used in a few years for a fraction of MSRP, and don't want the BRZ/FR-S to go the way of the 240SX or the Mid-nineties Honda Civic Si.
I think we might be ok though. A big part of the reason those cars got ground into trash was that they were worth $3K at the time.
And, honestly, it's not the relatively few who bought 240SX's to drift legally on race tracks that ruined those cars, it was the 100,000 Fast and Furious fans "drifting" around their cul-de-sacs until they crashed into the neighbor's Tahoe that ruined those cars. I reserve plenty of right to "hate" when people do illegal, dangerous, and stupid things on public roads.
C&D has a test of this car...or the "other company's" version (sorry, I can't keep these 2 straight) and really sort of liked it. Unfortunately, the car has suffered from "price creep" in that it appears it will be closer to $30K than $25K.
Like others here, modding a brand new car, as in so new the dealers don't have but one or two for 3 dealers to share...is pretty dumb. But then again, I've never had enough money to buy the car new AND afford to mod it in the same month.
ShadowSix:
the problem with Eibachs on a B13 isn't the poor design, but when Sport Compact Car modded a SE-R and later a 200 SX-SE they discovered the cars had almost no suspension travel from the factory. After changing the springs and shocks they cut down the bump stops (on the rear, anyway) to get at least the "appearance" of some suspension travel). 90s Hondas have the same problem...perhaps it's an Asian car thing?

I don't mean that Eibach's are of a low construction quality, that they are not the rates they claim, or they break or rust or anything.
I am saying that if Eibach did any actual research or testing on a B13 they would have realized that the springs don't work on the car. Eibach (and to be fair, probably lots of other companies making springs) claimed to improve performance without backing it up with engineering.
On the subject of suspension travel. Maybe it is an Asian car thing, my MkII Golf seemed like it had lots of suspension travel and it was in the same class as the SE-R and Civic.

I'm driving it the week after next at Mt. Tremblant. Heard good things about the BR-Z, so I'm looking forward to it.

Not really.. the original VW Golf/Rabbit only had 4 inches of wheel travel stock

I'd probably lower the thing fairly quickly, too, FWIW. Not so much on day of delivery, but within a few months, for sure. Looks really good, IMHO.
I just hate these kind of marque/model-based forums. Everyone leghumps the car as they buy them, saying how amazing they are in every way and then race to be the first to mod them to the furthest extent.
Then, the first guy will wreck his and replace it with something lesser.
A year later, the "selling the FR-S" threads start popping up.

Yep, thats why I ran far far away from VWVortex.com. The "slam it, poke it, done" crowd is getting crazy over there.
same reason I ran away from Bimmerforums.. that and the general population's hatred of the Ti
I used to have the blinders on for a specific brand of car, then a set country for cars, then a continent. Now its anything that can tow, gets good mpg, is inexpensive, or performs well on track(regardless or power). Must fall into one of those four food groups now. Crossbreeding those four is ABSOLUTELY accepted as well as imperfections/rust/general neglect. The less photogenic, the more I probably like it.
