So, I'm obviously chomping at the bit to go get this truck. Trying to find a not-strenuous path home from Saddlebrooke, AZ to Indianapolis. Then I was watching TGUS and watched the Pike's Peak episode with the turbo Ody. So I was thinking... will Pike's Peak be open the first week of march? Is it idiotic to even consider that drive in an unknown, 40yo truck with your father?

THe obvious options are rt66 as much as possible. Or swing up through Kansas and come across US36. Any other suggestions? I've got 3 days to (hopefully) make it home. Worst case is I rent a uhaul somewhere in BFE and a to dolly. I have no idea what gears are in this thing, what it'll be like on modern interstates etc. So looking for entertaining options and what better place to ask a silly question than here.

It'll be a real test for the cooling system, that's for sure, both because of the climbing and because of the reduced cooling efficiency at higher altitudes.

Pikes peak should be at least some open. May not be open all the way to the top.

1st week of March in Colorado could be 70 degrees or 3 feet of snow. Won't know until 2nd week of March.

I don't think there is a place outside of city slums in the continental US that is a bad idea for a road trip with dad in a sketchy old truck. Some places might be best with a Satellite Phone to call for a helo but... mostly you are within 40 miles of a Walmart and Starbucks.

We're scheduled for 3 days to get home. IT's a normal 2 day drive from point to point.
