I know I could get my answers by calling the DMV but its after hours so I thought I would ask the Florida hive. I am flying down to pick up the GRM RallyX Subaru next weekend. It seems there are state and private DMV offices, and only the private run ones are open on Saturdays.
Can somebody tell me if there is really any difference between the two?
Do I need anything special for a temp tag?
Do I have to show proof of insurance or do I just sign a paper pinky swearing I have it?
I want to try and make the transaction as quick and painless as possible since we have a long drive back to the north coast.
Make it easy. Bring a trip permit from your home state.
IIRC you can sign an affidavit swearing you have insurance and get a temp tag for 5 days.

Ive never heard of such a thing. I checked out the Michigan website and didnt see anything like that for non-commercial vehicles. Here, you can drive it home on a filled out title and bill of sale. But I dont know if Georgia would care what we do in Michigan!

Im hoping for something nice and easy like that. Sounds similar to what I am used to. I will have insurance, but it will likely just be a fax from my agent.

Temporary Registration Permits
30- or 60-day Temporary Permits are available
The 30-day permit fee is one-tenth (1/10) of the annual registration fee or $20, whichever is greater, plus a $10 service fee.
The 60-day permit fee is one-fifth (1/5) of the annual registration fee or $40, whichever is greater, plus a $10 service fee.

Im not sure how other states reciprocate our mostly lax laws, I'd get a temp tag to be safe.

I think I've driven half a dozen cars from a few states away to MI with no plate. I stopped on the side of the road in Delaware once to check the oil level. A state trooper pulled up behind me (no plates) and asked if everything was ok. I told him I just bought the car, was on my wan home and wanted to check the oil. He said "Have a safe trip" and that was it. I was surprised. It was insured, but he didn't ask for anything.
