Most "powered parachutes" (that's what the FAA called this) are powered by twin plug rotax engines (think modified snowmobile engine).

The rotax's are a little more than "modified snowmobile engines". It's been a while since I kept up with ultralights and the like, but they were never a source of failure as far as I can remember.
Pistons, block, jugs, etc are straight from the sleds. the heads are different for redundant plugs & all bolts are wire secured.
I'm kind of afraid of heights. Looking up and knowing the only thing keeping me and an automobile from becoming a divot is a bunch of twine; makes parts pucker.
