I realize it's a long shot, but I almost expected the networks to pick up the story from the BBC. Today (yesterday, now?) Quantas fielded a flight in an airplane fuelled on "re-cycled" fuel. According to the story, "veggie" oil was used and because it takes an awful lot of fuel to get a plane into the air, Quantas got it's fuel shipped from Louisianna's McDonalds. (Apparently, Australians don't eat as much french fries as Americans do?) Quantas believes it can cut it's fuel bills by nearly 60% if it can get a steady supply of "re-cycled" fuel.

I'm trying the BBC news website, but can't find anything. You got a link?

I was hoping McDs was supplying the food when you fly.. would be an improvement on the typical rubbery turkey sandwich

Air Force has been running a few jets on "bio" fuel for a bit now. Mmmm... cruise missiles that smell like french fries.

It seems to me that I've recently read where McDonald's is running their fleet of delivery semis using their own fryer grease. Google fails me.

I remember that actually being an option on some flights when I was a kid in the early 90s. My recollection isn't all that clear considering I was like 10 but I think the deal is that you could somehow specify what you wanted before the flight, and then McD's would make it, the crew would store it, and then reheat it and deliver it to you at mealtime.

Hmmm it comes full circle. Qantas using Mc Donald's old grease and years ago McDonalds getting busted for using kangaroo tail meat.

I just came into this thread to post this. Mission accomplished Wally!

I gotta admit, dieing would be a lot easier if it smelled like fries...
