I found a lead on a local job calling for foam spray technicians. Anybody out there do this or have experience with it?

You mean as in residential foam insulation spray? Or something like manufacture of laminated cellular foam panels? Commercial acoustical foam spray? Industrial equipment insulation? Equipment operator for manufacturing foam sofa cushions?

You might need to give a few more details...

I want to say residential foam insulation spray? It said phase 1 was a couple hundred units. Then there was a second phase and it said this was a co-op.

Sounds like residential spray foam.

There's several different formulas- generally goes in wet after mixing 2 components, hardens shortly thereafter (kind of like an industrial version of Great Stuff). Then you use scrapers to level it off with the studs.

It's a pretty good, expensive product.

Generally, jobs in this area aren't really well paid, but the work environment should be light years ahead of say, spray loose fill insulation. Not a bad job. Probably avoid hot attics most of the time.

The one thing I'd look out for is the chemical exposure of the specific ingredients you are working with. Ask about training, other's experiences, and ask to see the MSDS's for each of the materials you will be using. If the company seems in any way like they aren't prepared to support you well from a training and safety perspective, run away.

Note, that most of the formulas are probably quite safe.

One side note- it's a high mark-up business, which generally doesn't pay really well, mostly because it is hard to find people with initiative for the insulation business. If you feel confident about the quality of the company and the safety issues, show some initiative and push for more. Ask up front about opportunities for advancement, whether there would be an opening for a crew leader, and whether they would offer you increases, bonuses, or profit sharing for high productivity, or helping them increase their sales. The profits are there, but it's hard for companies to hire motivation. Show them some motivation, and then see if they'll share the financial rewards.

Good luck!
