I'm trying to remember a supercar that was one of the rarest models from its manufacturer. I'm pretty sure it was a Porsche, from the '80s or '90s. It has a similar shape to the Jaguar XJR15, a curvy mid-engined car with a relatively narrow cabin. I'm pretty sure I saw a YouTube video in the last year or two of a British auto journalist driving a black one but I can't find it in my browser history now. Any ideas?
Nope, not a Carrera GT or 959. Styling was kind of 959-like.

Nope, well aware of the XJ220. I remember thinking it was odd that I'd never heard of it before as someone who's heard of a lot of obscure supercars.
Porsche (or Dauer) 962 possibly. Basically a road legal lemans car?
In reply to travellering :
You got it! Dauer 962 Le Mans was it!

Plot twist: I searched back in my browser history, and while it was a roadgoing 962 it wasn't exactly the Dauer 962, it was the Schuppan-Porsche 962 CR:
In reply to GameboyRMH :
Oddly enough, when the Dauer was posted, I thought "TWO companies made road legal 962s?" and couldn't remember Schuppan's name.
Will watch the video later, but the Schuppan that I saw was more or less a 962 in race trim that they'd bunged catalytic converters on to pass emissions testing. Still very raw looking. (Edit: Car and Driver, July 1991. Can't find the article yet but I'll look later because I loved that article)
The Schuppan-Porsche 962 CR was shown in the Porsche - Victory by Design documentary with Alain de Cadanet, that was one my favourite things to watch when it would pop up on Speedvision back in the day.
Don't forget a really rare one:
