I would love to give him a bunch of grief about getting the W8 but I just picked up this and it does not move under its own power... . . . yet. .. . .

A car made by Americans for the British. What could go wrong.

The sad thing is, I'm currently tithing for two personalized plates - the syncro has NT A QTRO and the Volvo has OKTAVIA... both would be appropriate for a W8.

Wait how did the Germans get in to the mix? I thought the underpinnings were all ford as is a lot of the interior. The British got to re skin it. Is the Mondeo a German design for ford?

There's a Ford of Germany. Although to be fair I thought the Mondeo was Ford of UK's fault.

I successfully avoided buying a W8!

However there is another car that is calling my attention... a rather low-budget version of which has just popped up for sale near me.

Shan't speak its name aloud but it is known by a pair of TLAs and it has a wing bigger than the Spruce Goose.

Did anyone suggest leaping onto the horn of your unicorn and impaling yourself? Might just be a less painful solution...

Missed this last comment before the thread sank temporarily into oblivion. The old Mondeo's were developed by Ford of Europe, for decades now Ford in the UK has done the commercial vehicles and Ford of Germany has done the passenger cars. The Mondeo was done mainly in Germany. In the 90's when I was here working on the CT120 (Mazda based) Escort I had a Manager Ben Winter. He got promoted and sent to Europe to be the Suspension Manager on the CD132 Mondeo based X-Type.

Note. The current Mondeo is the same as out current Fusion and designed / Developed in America.

Back on topic. First, disappointed in the lack of W8, but I have lots of anticipation as to what the OP's sites are now set on. Come on, spill the beans.

I can say that the Junk Yard Jag is now up and driving. I am using it as my DD commuter in and out of Boston and so far it has been a great car. A couple minor things that are the result of it sitting for a year un used but those have been sorted. It is very much like a mid sized BMW (5 series) or MB E class in how it rides and handles. So far I really like it.

The all wheel drive system is Haldex which isn't very good from a longevity standpoint.... I'll take any justification for not liking transverse AWD since it is universally a complete pain in the tail to do any service work with, even for things that aren't related to the transmission/drivetrain.

...Jeez, that's a wall of text.

edit - Also, there aren't any for sale remotely near me, they cost as much as I'd spend on an Evo, or a W8 plus and another W8 to drive if the first one breaks down. And they're all automatic, and VW torque converters are a maintenance item, and to be honest, if I had a transverse AWD VW that needed a converter, I'd pay another shop $2k to do it rather than do it myself.

Three years later.

Pulled the trans from my transverse AWD unicorn because the torque converter failed...

Geez.
