It just occurred to me how crazy my home theater setup is. My Amazon Fire Stick is plugged into the back of my projector (HDMI) for video while the audio output runs from a 1/8" audio jack on the projector, across the room via cable to my receiver and into the DVD player input. My Mac Mini is plugged into the other HDMI on the projector, but the audio from the Mac Mini runs on a TosLink cable to my receiver into the Mini-Disc input. My Wii and digital TV box both run into a RCA switch, then into the receiver Video 1 input, which then passes composite video to the projector via a long RCA cable. Oh, and my subwoofer is behind the couch and uses a coax-to-RCA adapter for input because I had a bunch of old cable TV coax sitting around and didn't want to buy a 30' RCA cable. All the wiring is tucked into the crown molding, so at least is looks nice.

I think it is time to convert it all to HDMI with a switch at the receiver and a digital splitter to supply the audio signal to the receiver (which has no HDMI input). This may do the trick: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B017MSJQ4S/ref=twister_B018RNKRS6?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

It takes three remotes to do anything: projector, receiver, and whatever source you want to use (Wii, computer, Amazon stick, digital TV box).

Anyone have a crazier setup?

Used to but not anymore, I've been trying to tidy things up I remember at one point I had a setup with an RCA switchbox, a VGA to RCA adapter, and a 3.5mm to RCA adapter all running through a DVR which also had a cable box going into it...

I ised to have a pretty crazy setup. But I also switched to a modern HDMI receiver and cleaned it all up.

Same here- used to be pretty convoluted but since HDMI everything hooks up nicely with just one cable.

I've got a DVD player that is connected via HDMI to the TV and then through an AC3 (?) cable to this ancient 5.1 system. Then I have the cable DVR via HDMI, and the Roku box hooked up in some fashion that I don't remember. I can plug my phone or tablet into the Roku's USB port to charge and the headphone jack in to the 5.1 system to listen to music. But if it's not the DVD player or my phone, the sound is all through the tinny TV speakers. And there's no remote for the 5.1 system. I suppose after about 16 years, I should replace that thing, huh?

Right now I've got a Mac Mini connected to my receiver via a DVI/optical -> HDMI converter. The receiver is plugged into the TV. It used to be more crazy, but I simplified a bit. I'm going to replace the Mac Mini once Apple gets off it's butt and releases a computer with HDMI 2.0.

I had to quit watching stuff on my computer because since I "upgraded" to Win10, my computer no longer thinks my monitor has audio capabilities, so it refuses to send any audio down the HDMI hose.

Worked fine under Win8.

I thought this would be about hacking up a home audio system, wiring the amp to an inverter, and then wiring the whole thing to the car. Apparently it works surprisingly well.

I don't even want to begin to tell you the insane setups I saw while I was at Comcast. They didn't really teach us about home theater setups and I had to learn it myself, but some people....

Upgrade your video drivers and then check the video settings - that's where the HDMI audio output setting is.

You guys make mine look simple. My computer blows video into a monitor. Done.

I used to have a DVD player that sent video to a TV and audio to the computer, which had my headphones hooked up to it (I do not tolerate background noise at all) but I think I turned my TV and DVD player on in 2012 at the latest...
