Berkley Berkley Berkley. Some scum sucking pond scum low life douche bag E36 M3 for brains has filed a false federal tax return under my SS#. Great hours on the phone with the IRS, FTC already. More to come with Police, Social Security admin, MI tax office, credit agencies etc. Affidavits to be filed etc. etc. berkeley berkeleyity berkeley. berkeley berkeley.

I hope the scum bag gets caught and ends up in a cell with Bubba and Jr, both 300lb’s, hung like a porn star and suffering from nymphomania and severe anger issues.

I’m so berkeleying naive that I had to ask why someone would do that. I mean I understand credit card fraud, but why a tax return. To get a big ass tax return of course. Bastards.

2 years later, I'm finally able to file. Hope your experience is better than mine has been. Funny how the IRS is in a big motherberkeleying hurry to get their money when I owe them. I'm sure they'll pay me interest and penalties. HA!!!

Didn't. For the 1st time in a decade we used an accountant. Filed on Tax day in April. Silance........... Later get told by accoutnant that he'd got a letter from IRS saying that a return with my # had already been filed. I freaked out, but he said no worry, he's got those notes before and it's always a mistake on the IRS's behalf so he re-filed. Months pass with nothing, me calling the IRS and checking on line with no result. Today after well over an hour on the line I find it was correct. Someone had filed the false one prior to April.

My father went through something similar. Somebody took out a 10grand loan in his name using his SS#. After finally getting it proven he was not the one and the loan is "forgiven" the IRS hit him with a bill on that 10grand.

Seems when a load is forgiven, the IRS considers is income

You can file for an automatic extension that gives you an extra 6 months to file. Some tax accountants actually recommend doing it, because you're statistically less likely to be audited if you file under an extension. It doesn't give you any longer to pay, so any interest on a payment still stacks up, just to file.

It's also possible that the fradulent return was filed earlier in the year and they just now got around to figuring it out.

Speaking of which, I really oughta get off my ass and file my taxes for this year...

They don't figure it out until you send in the real return. The criminals always file early.

I still get other people's problems in my mailbox occasionally, having a common last name sucks. Also have a person in my family with serious credit issues who has a nasty habit of sending their creditors to me. One of these days... POW! To the moon, Alice!

It's a berkeleying epidemic. Seriously. Right after it happened to me, one of those "financial advice" radio shows said that fake returns with stolen SS#'s had quadrupled in the last few years.

What is the IRS doing to stop it? Nothing. For real? We can't require more than a berkeleying number to file a return? A goddamned picture ID maybe? I have to have 20 berkeleying forms of ID to renew my goddamned Driver's license...but I don't need a DL to file my taxes!?

I guess they're too busy targeting "Patriot" groups to do their berkeleying jobs.

Address the check was sent? This is the age of e file and automatic deposit. Chances are that as soon as the refund hit the bank account it was removed and the account closed. Don't be surprised if the account was set up in the OP's name and SS#. Bet the bank even threw in a new credit card and offered to refinance his house.

I've already spent hours on the phone with the IRS, FTC, Equifax and Social Security (still haven't actually got past the queue on that one). So I still have to actually get through to the SS then I also need to follow up with the State of Mi tax dept. to see what’s going on there.

The one that's scaring me now is that with Equifax after reporting the issue I used their automated system to try and order my free credit report, but the system tells me it won’t send one as I've recently requested and received one! Nope, it's been over 2 years since I last checked it (yes I should do it every year and will from now on). After another hour on the phone I finally get to speak to someone who will give me the sun the moon and the stars for only $16.99 a month. No, all I want is my free berkeleying credit report I'm entitled to by law. So they give me the same # I’ve already called for the automatic system. No I explain, that's not working for me, but they just won’t give it to me, they refer me to the Government mandated site https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp but that site tells me there’s an issue and I can’t get my reports online, so I had to use the phone system which tells me that it will take 2 weeks to process and 6 weeks to mail. So now I have to wait 2 months to find out WTF else may have happened.

Finally I’ve filed with the FTC and they generated an affidavit for me and sent me a link. They gave me an ID and password (case sensitive) to access it. No joy at work, so I call and they generate a new case sensitive password in case I wrote it down wrong (I didn’t I read it back first time as well). Still no joy, so we conclude on the phone that it’s something to do with my work computer and security, so I try again when home on my Mac, nope, still doesn’t berkeleying work. So that’s another call for today.

While this is a giant PIA I’m staying positive and putting it in perspective. A friend of ours got colon cancer last year. Op and Chemo, then a few months later on her first post chemo checkup she has another lump that then grew 10cm in just a couple of weeks so the other day she had a full hysterectomy. Being honest it’s really not looking good. So as bad as some low life scum bag stealing my ID is, we’re all fit and healthy here.

Saw a report a while back where the IRS had sent some 9 refunds totaling about $35,000 to one address. They inteviewed a guy living there, he was very blunt that they had used their kid's names with heisted SS#'s to do it. They still lived there and the IRS hadn't even sent a letter.
