I have a bunch of helmet cm clips from a motorcycle trip through Guatemala I am trying to stich together. Any suggestions for simple video editing software for a true rookie?

Yeah, if you're running Windows 10 it should "include" Movie Maker, but sometimes it has to be downloaded and installed. I think this is a fairly automatic process it will walk you through. I've used it to string clips together, add audiotracks and overdubbing, and some basic titles and effects for some work stuff. It's every bit as good as the specialty paid software I was using 10 years ago.
Another vote for WMM, it's very easy to use. If you need more capability or are not on a PC, there's always Shotcut.
There's also RaceRender, which has a free version, it allows you to add data, etc.
I'll second the Windows Movie Maker, you need at least Win7 to work with HD video.
I have a 7 machine I would like to do it on. Unfortunately, WMM is not compatible. Downloading ShotCut now, will give it a run and follow with RaceRender if it doesn't work.

Microsoft likes to play games to try and force people to update from 7 by hiding things like that:

While DaVinci Resolve is great software and powerful, I don't think it really qualifies as "simple". WMM is probably the better choice on Windows and obviously iMovie on OS X.
