i wonder how it sounds.. the thick pipe has to muffle the noises different than the thin wall tubing we are used to..

Or "$0 worth of paying an exhaust shop" if you've already got the E36 M3 laying around. It's all in how you look at things. Maybe homeboy saved all the exhaust clamps he had from stripping cats off cars, and got the plumbing E36 M3 as leftovers from construction sites. I like it. He needs a Hong Norr tshirt.
And I know the guy who used a chunk of wood to fix an S500 isn't throwing stones
^This.
It's also exactly the kind of bodge my late Grandfather would routinely employ. If materials are free, the fix is relatively not dangerous, and functionality doesn't suffer hugely, berkeley it! why not?
I love where it tees 2-into-1. That's got to be an ultra-low restriction point. And the coat-hanger wire is a nice touch, even though it contrasts rather starkly with the ungodly overkill of the iron pipe bits.
I would like to see the whole exhaust done in iron pipe. I think that would speak volumes, although on what topic I can't rightly say.
I would be a lot more impressed by this if it was done in a paddock or on a rally stage somewhere....

It's totally legit in Indiana too! I mean, as long as you don't go around telling everyone.

Hell no! I actually posted pics of that fix on a MB forum, and you'd have thought I shot their kittens in front of them by their reactions. Freakin' hilarious.
In case you're wondering what we're talking about: http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/how-to-fix-a-1300-mercedes-air-strut-for-695/27120/page1/
Impressive... I had to fix an exhaust system late one night and was running out of ideas.. never thoght to try out my plumbing bins!

That's thereifixedit.com if you want hackjob crap.
Oh wait, I did post an "epic fail" hackjob once and the GRM response was universally positive, so I had to leave the forum for a few months to cool off from how pissed off I was.
It reminds me of seeing a car with a duct taped up side mirror, the time and energy it took to put 50 layer of tape on plus 50$ would have done a proper repair but what is the fun in that.
Someone probably stole the cats off it and this is how they "fixed" it. Or they sold the cats for drug money and went for the 5 finger discount at lowes.
Either way its pretty good, around here it would just be soup cans and some kind of wrong adhesive.
